The idea's:
- Porting the game to another system (console, handheld, ..) and/or programming language (C++, C#, ... )
* Discussed many times, not easily doable.
Example of discussions:
About Python 3
About porting to PS3
Example of projects:
Strings On Speed, coded in C++, uses Frets On Fire songs - 3/4 players - Like in rock band
* Present since FoFiX 3.120 (beta) now (under FoFiX issue 64)
Good suggestion for 4-player capabilities by ultimaFenrir (Suggestions can still be useful)
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Achievements - Like on the Xbox 360 version of GHIII (for a FC, 5* etc.)
* Hasn't yet been considered for any version of FoFiX and as things are now, it might never be added directly to the game itself. No hope is lost though, in terms of coding it seems possible but might take too much time to get it work (correctly).
Thread by KTownEgghead discussing achievements - Add date/time to highscores - Like score/stars/note streak/percentage also include the time the mentioned score was achieved
* Is not yet used, but possible for a later version of FoFiX (Under FoFiX issue 757)
A thread by me with 3 idea's including this one - Automatic difficulty downgrader - Automatically adds lower difficulties if you have expert
* The scorehero forum is said to have a program like this, but is most of the time pretty useless. Even though a thing like this is possible to code it is way too time-consuming and will never be 100% or even close to that in terms of reliability. Therefore it is doubtful someone will go through the trouble of programming something like this.
topic by funnyfrets117 regarding this idea
Thread by me explaining the possibility - Automatic fretter - place notes automatically for you according to the audio file
* Due to the fact that the computer has no way to tell what is the guitar in most songs, any song automatically fretted like this would become a large mess of notes. There is a bit of hope if we are talking about master tracks, but these are hard to get. Even though many love the idea of this, it will never happen.
The idea pronounced by Papas400 - Big rock ending - Freestyle playing in the end for extra points like in rock band
* Present since FoFiX 3.100 now (under FoFiX issue 108)
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Carreer mode - Unlock other songs when you played the previous ones
* Has been made possible since Hero FoF came out and is integrated in any FoFiX version
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Countdown after resume - Little countdown when resuming from the pause so you won't miss notes that come suddenly
* Available since FoFiX version 3.100 (under FoFiX issue 288), it had some minor bugs (concerning star power/display) but these should be fixed since the latest FoFiX release.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Customizable failing - Possibility for the player to decide the dropping speed/increasing speed of the rock meter (and maybe even star power gain)
* The hering mod contains the feature to customize these settings including a few presets. Having this in a later version of FoFiX makes a nice add, but hasn't been considered yet.
Dan1lo's starter pack, a full installation of hering mod - Customizable hopo - Forced hopo/strum notes like in GH3/GHWT/RB etc.
* Hasn't yet been added to any FoFiX version, although it is being discussed intensively by the FoFiX team (under FoFiX issue 280)
Thread by K.o.R discussing this - Demo by Jurgen - Let Jurgen play a randomly picked song when not doing anything on the main menu
* This really depends on how the idea is going to turn out (and how the FoFiX team thinks about this), but may not even be used that intensively, if at all.
Thread by Angellinus who came up with this idea - Difficulty calculator - Rate the difficulty of certain songs based on the note chart.
* This may be a hard feature to implement in FoF. As a good replacement however, the fretter has the possibility to add a difficulty rating in the song.ini manually for each instrument. (under FoFiX issue 359)
Thread by poxpower discussing this
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Drum fills across one line/sustained drum fills - Create sustained drum notes
* Drum fills have been present since FoFiX version 3.100 (under FoFiX issue 102), a drum fill along one single fret instead of five may have to be taken into consideration. Up until now nothing of that sort seems to be in development for any future FoFiX version.
Thread by Tormann71 regarding this idea
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Faster strum solution - Secondary strum key also counts as a strum when released
* Not yet added to any form of FoFiX, although remapping keys with certain programs could form a good alternative to this. Therefore, it might not become an ingame function at any time.
Idea pronounced by Newcreature - Final mode - Entry in the fretsonfire.ini that lets you 'lock' most of the game options when set to true
* Has not been included in FoFiX in this form. However the later versions (from 3.030 and on) have the 'advanced' options hidden in their own section.
2 Idea's as pronounced by funnyfrets117, includes this one
A poll about final mode, what will you vote?
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Freeride/freestyle sections - Empty solo sections where you can hit any button combination you like to score points, this also includes drum fills.
* See "drum fills" and "big rock ending" for more info on the likes of this. I haven't yet confirmed if a big rock ending can be used elsewhere than the ending in a song.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - FoF-specific game modes - Adding more game modes to Frets on Fire (Not including the GH/RB game modes)
* No unique game modes have been added to a FoFiX version at this time, suggestions have been made but not yet taken into consideration for a future version.
Angellinus came up with some suggestions here - Guitar battle mode - Like in GH3, with power-ups
* A GH3-like battle mode as multiplayer function is present since FoFiX 3.120 (beta), there are discussions going on about improving it now (under FoFiX issue 749), also real boss battles are likely to appear in FoFiX version 4.0.0 (under FoFiX issue 121)
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Integrating advanced song editors (like EOF) - Just like it says, replaces the standard editor
* This hasn't yet been discussed about, but the chance is very low it will ever happen, there used to be a song editor in stock FoF but this, however, was everything there ever was to this idea.
most recent thread by CANENGBros discussing this - Jurgen only on player 1 or player 2 - For boss battles
* This has already been present since the earlier versions of FoFiX (Possibly around 3.030), and can work to play for only player 1, player 2 or both players. The only issue that keeps this idea from being used for boss battles is still the fact Jurgen's speed relies on a computer's processor speed.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Killswitch - Alternative to whammy bar, kills sound at the press of a button while on sustained notes
* Around since a really early version of FoFiX (possibly around 3.030) and seems to form a good alternative to the whammy bar.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Online playing - Compete against each other in multiplayer mode
* Although thought of by many as being entirely impossible, this is being worked on. Not known if this is going to get included in a later FoFiX version though.
Pieces of socket code by Maze2234
Rewrite of FoF for online play by Acedia
Strings On Speed: can play Frets On Fire songs, supports online split-screen multiplayer - Open note - Note across the fretboard with standard sounds for each fret
* Used to be included in an early version of the Hering mod, but has been removed in later versions due to lack of use. There is, however, hope it returns in a later FoFiX version (under FoFiX issue 254)
Big discussion thread by Gazzer regarding open string - Part percentage/detailed breakdown- Like in GH, after you complete a song you can not only see the % of the whole song, but also on each individual section of a song.
* Not yet brought up at the FoFiX development team. The feature is an interesting one to add and since many new things have been made possible with FoFiX there is no reason to outrule the possibility of this. - Piano/keyboard - Adding extra instrument tracks for keyboard/piano/synth etc.
* ssjfulkon198, who was supposedly working on this function hasn't shown any sign of life regarding this idea. Nothing of the sort has been brought up within the FoFiX development team either, this idea can be considered dead for the moment.
Thoughts of ssjfulkon198 who was going to put it in - Playing without strumming - Hit the notes without use of strum button
* Drums have been implemented ever since the alarian mod existed, a similar thing for guitar has not yet been included in FoFiX, although there is being discussed about (under FoFiX issue 666)
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here)
Thread started by dumbfif to discuss playing without strumming - Practice mode - Like in guitar hero/rock band
* Since the early versions of FoFiX (Around FoFiX 3.030) section data can be read from notes.mid files and a training mode was added to make players skip to these sections. Slowing down songs has been made possible since FoFiX version 3.100 (under FoFiX issue 275) came out, the only downside being that you cannot skip to any sections when selecting a lower speed.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here)
Thread by akirasani that is still open for discussing - Progress table - Shows how many of the how many songs in your library you have 1*, 2*, 3* etc. on
* Not included in any version of FoFiX, since the arrival of the carreer mode chances of this idea being used are very small as it mainly was supposed to form an alternative to carreer.
Suggestion for loading phrases/Progress table by me - Recording video's while playing (built-in) - Like it says
* Hasn't been included in/taken into consideration for any FoFiX version, the chances are extremely low something like this will ever be included due to the fact recording takes away a lot of the processor's possibly-already-99%-used-memory, therefore lagging too much to be worth it.
Thread by Kotti discussing recording gameplay/make it replay - Resurrecting the queue from the hering mod for FoFiX - Put in the possibility to put songs in a queue and play them all in succession without having to go to the song selection menu over and over.
* This feature used to be in the hering mod, but was removed in FoFiX. One of the issues on the google codes page reveals though, that the team is thinking about porting the function to FoFiX (under FoFiX issue 99)
Thread by cmsk8ter discussing this - Separate .ini for scores - Create an independant .ini file for scores in a song folder to keep the .ini with song stats clean
* Although it would make things cleaner, it doesn't add too much to the game. This function has not been included in any FoFiX version and probably never will be.
A thread by me with 3 idea's including this one - Sixth fret - Add another fret so there are 6 frets instead of 5
* It is possible through a lot of coding to add this, although thanks to the fact that it makes a lot of work for fretters (who have to redo all their charts for this) and players using (older) GH controllers who cannot press more than 5 frets this idea might never be realized at all. The idea has not yet been taken into consideration for any FoFiX version.
Thread by mr. Crowley, it discusses the 6th fret
'master' difficulty by MoN01, not 6 but 10 frets, gives an idea of the difficulty of more frets - Skill meter - At the end of a song see how well you did on what aspect (speedpicking, hopo, tapping etc.), as well as an average skill meter.
* There is no skill meter present in any version of FoFiX and due to the complexity and time that has to be sacrificed to realize this idea (which may even then not work well enough) it will just not happen. The idea hasn't up until now not been taken into consideration for future FoFiX versions.
A thread by me with 3 idea's including this one - Slow strummed chords - not hitting the notes in a chord at once but strum one sustain, then hopo more until it ends in a chord, similar to GHWT/GHM/GHSH etc.
* This feature is not completely supported in current FoFiX versions except through glitches. Supporting this kind of chord, however, has been taken into consideration and might appear in a future FoFiX version (under FoFiX issue 254)
The idea pronounced by funnyfrets117
Example in GHWT (Thanks to klorjne for notifying) - Solo sections - Like in rock band, where you get extra score depending on how much notes in a solo you hit.
* See "Practice mode" for more info regarding midi sections, this is implemented through the same type of events and supported since a pretty early version of FoFiX (Possibly around 3.030).
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Song list scrolling - Make the list of songs scrolling, add a top and bottom to the list like in GH3
* This is more like a graphical addition than a feature to make the setlist look nicer. I haven't yet found anything fitting the description in the current FoFiX versions and if it is going to be considered by the FoFiX team the priority of this will not be very high.
2 Idea's as pronounced by funnyfrets117, includes this one - Song specific loading phrases - Like in any GH/RB game change the loading text that appears before a song through a song's .ini file
* Supported since FoFiX started, and hasn't been removed ever since.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Song specific backgrounds - Put a background image in the song's folder and that one will be used
* Since FoFiX version 3.030 came out there has been an added support for song specific backgrounds that go by the name background.png. This function is present in any later FoFiX version as well.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Song specific whammy options - Put in the song.ini an option of whether the song can be pitchbended by what.
* Not included in any FoFiX version and depending on circumstances may never be, the idea doesn't add improvements to the game, but serves more as something to polish songs/add to a little more professional quality of songs. Even if the idea is to be added, priority would be extremely low.
Death_97 came up with the idea in this thread - Star power/Overdrive - Like in guitar hero/rock band
* Star power phrases have been present ever since FoFiX started, at first decided by the game, became customizable in later versions.
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Turn 'Jurgen is here' off in alarian mod - No more 'jurgen is here' text when using that
* Nice try, cheater!
But I'm in a good mood, so if you want to know it, this shows you how to - Use FoF to teach/educative purpose - Using the game to teach facts about real drums/guitar/music
* Up until now, the way FoFiX supports this is through tutorials and loading phrases, these two are the only oppurtunities to show interesting facts. Any other educative way hasn't yet been implemented and there have so far been no suggestions for one either.
The idea as brought forward by Wintersbane08 - Video in the background - Like in guitar hero/rock band
* The closest FoFiX can get to video's in the background would be through the use of scrolling past a large number of still .png backgrounds. There has yet to be found an effective way to use real video files in the background without causing any lag. So far no suggestions have been brought up about this.
Alternative for video's by el nini
Thread by jrdnxxhero on how to do animated backgrounds using multiple images
Bowstars animated backgrounds thread
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - View replay - Records your performance, allowing you to view it as a replay at the end, after that the video is discarded (or could be saved)
* For a complete description of this see "Recording video's while playing" to see the reasons why this is hard to implement. Chances are small unless a way is found to make FoF run smoothly even while recording.
Thread by Kotti discussing recording gameplay/make it replay - Visual change to three-note chords - When 2-note chords only is turned on notes that cannot be played = invisible
* Not yet added to any FoFiX version, but since it bugs a lot of people it might be taken into consideration for later. If this is going to be on the list, it's priority will be low due to the fact it is only a minor change and will not add anything new/fix problems.
Idea by Flood1993 (Not exactly this idea but it turned out like this) - Vocals - Like in rock band
* The FoFiX development team is well on it's way with the vocal support, though it is still under development vocals are supported in FoFiX beta 3.120, it already works with RB songs (under FoFiX issue 840).
This idea by MarvinPA came pretty close to a solution
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here) - Whammy bar - Change the pitch of long notes
* Whammy pitch bending is supported in FoFiX version 3.120 (beta) and up (under FoFiX issue 419)
Idea by KpChadR08 for using mouse as a whammy, among other suggestions
FoFiX google code page (Latest version can always be found here)
If any of you knows another idea that has been asked more than once or an idea you have seen which is interesting (and NOT in this thread), tell it here. Mainly this is to inform our newcomers of what has been asked already and should hopefully reduce repeation of all those 'Me wants whammy'/'star power KEWL'-like threads that appear every time.
If there is a way to improve this thread I'm all ears as well.
I updated the thread so there are links to other threads discussing the idea's. You can view the replies to those idea's or discuss them without having to start a new thread.
