How to run videos in the background - Piece of cake, really.

There's probably many ways of doing this with different media players, but this is the way I did it.


1. Get VLC
2. Remove your desktop background. (Right click desktop > Properties > Desktop > (None))
3. Choose the video you want to run, and open it with VLC
4. In VLC go to Settings > Video > Output Modules > DirectX. Click "Advanced Options" in the bottom right corner and click "Enable wallpaper mode"
5. You MIGHT need to close and reopen VLC. When you do, right click on the video and click on "Wallpaper"
6. Take a screenshot of your desktop. (Press the prt scr key)
7. Paste the screenshot into Paint, set the size under "Attributes" if you need to. (I set it to 1280x960). You may also want to edit the picture to remove all your desktop icons. What I did was just take the dropper tool thing, sample the desktop, delete the whole picture and use the fill tool.
8. Save the picture as stage.png
9. Replace the original stage.png with the new one. You may want to keep the old one safe somewhere else, or rename it for now.
10. Keep your video running, or run whatever video you want with wallpaper mode switched on. You can minimize VLC if you want.
11. Launch FoF.

That should be it. Bear in mind that a few of these steps may be unnecessary, but I tried to cover as much as I could to make sure I didn't miss anything. Anyway, let me know how it works for you guys. I'll probably edit this so it makes more sense as well. This was just whipped up quick.


PROBLEMS:
-FoF needs to be windowed.
-It will only play what would be behind the window. eg. if the window is in the top right of your screen, you'll only see the top right of the movie. Shouldn't be too bad if you have a large window set up though.

h I did that once, was kinda weird.

Just turned on BSplayer, tried to take a screenshot with the regular print screen, got on paint. CTRL+V...

nothing appeared 8D, then I played the video again and the image I printed was copying the video =O

Thanks guys. Anybody else tried this yet? Would like some feedback, because I'm not sure my way was particularly efficient.

Also, see if you can guess the movie! :p

If there's a simpler way to do this by putting some kind of directx feature into the game...

It would be hella awesome xD

I think I won't use this right now, but it's a great idea for those who were asking about videos :)

Ah, let me rephrase that. I meant right click on the actual video while it's playing, not on the video file.
Its just like life. Quite interesting in parts, but no substitute for the real thing.

Ah, let me rephrase that. I meant right click on the actual video while it's playing, not on the video file.

whoopsy that pic was wayy to big I fixed it anyway

There still isnt a Wallpaper button

I have an issue too. I did everything that you said and I have my video playing on my desktop, but when I play FOF the video is not playing in the background. However I can see through some parts of the menus ??? What is up with that??

Edit: never mind...it works now. :D

ahh :/ i hate fof in window mode, but anyway thanks for the explanation.
what happen if ur running fof in fullscreen... doesnt show the video?

It didn't for me. There's no harm in trying though, if you want to see if it works. :)

And no ateshu, it's not Godfather. Much newer than that.
