That's pretty creative, although uber confusing. Maybe if they made it so the frets stayed the same, like on the top instead of being reversed colors... interesting

If this were feasible, I personally would far prefer to see (although I hate to follow the pro-RB-clone trend here) a layout with three necks across the bottom looking like we're used to seeing them, perhaps with an option for a side-scrolling fourth player across the top. that upside-rightside-flipflop look is more than i can take.

yes.

that way you potentially keep the standard layout (down-scrolling) with up to three players (guitar,bass,drums), but a fourth instrument is an option as well.

your computer would fail. the performence is jumpy and choppy with just two players on my comp. but then again... my comp sucks.

I could see a 4-Player Mode happening, but only with something like Co-op Versus...Basically like a 2 vs. 2 type thing. The top image would be a good image for that, then.

A 3- or 4-Player Versus mode might be possible, but I don't really see how...unless there's something like last one rocking or whoever has the most points/highest accuracy etc... For this the bottom two images look better. Maybe side-by-side fretboards will look good, too.

I'm very used to Marioparty style mini-games, so personally, I think that in 1-player, you have the standard screen; 2-player, you have to vertical split-screens; 3-player, either side-by-side vertical screens or each player having a quarter-size standard screen with the last screen being settings or a "live" screen; 4-player, either side-by-side vertical screens or each player having a quarter-size standard screen.

This is just my personal preference, but maybe one of the other images may look good in-game.

Actually all of them are quite doable from a coding perspective, but playing that way might be difficult.

I was going to experiment with a 3 players on bottom and one horizontal across the top, a la RB. But your other pictures are intriguing. I think the one where its in the 4 corners is especially neat.

Probably not going to happen any time soon. I think with 2 player FoF has enough time trying to keep up without lagging too much. But kudos to you for thinking of something different, and actually making some pictures to go along with it.
