check that you don´t have a folder inside the folder, this sometimes happens when you unrar beacause of the packing.
for example:
not C:\Program\FretsOnFire-1.1.324-win32\FretsOnFire\data\mods\%mod name%\%mod name%\
It should be C:\Program\FretsOnFire-1.1.324-win32\FretsOnFire\data\mods\%mod name%\

This is going to get moved to Tech Support.
WILDONE is correct: In your Mods folder, you have a folder for each mod, which is basically like having a bunch of Data folders lobbed into one big folder, so checking for double folders should be your first priority, and if that's not the case, you'll have to seek the advice of modders more capable than I for further instruction.
Which reminds me, I've got a mod to tinker with, see ya' later!
EDIT: Oh, I just remembered! In your Mods/modname/ folder, you should have a file called "neck.png". That's the fretboard image, it might also be "neck.svg", make sure you have a file with one of these names. Hope that helps.

That came off confusing to me, and I'm a knowledgeable graphic modder. Lets clear this up...
In any graphic mod, the actual graphics are determined by either a *.svg or a *.png file. If the modder chose to use .svgs (generally older mods or mods that need to graphic to be in a specific placement), there needs to be only the *.svg file (for your case, neck.svg would be the only file in the mod). If the modder chose to go about using .pngs as the choice for the graphics, there needs to be the .png file and a (usually blank) .svg file OF THE SAME NAME (neck.png AND neck.svg in your case). The reason for this is simple. The game uses .svgs for all it's graphics, even when you are using .pngs. What it does (in lamest terms), is it takes a .png of the same name when it can, and basically pastes it over the .svg.
A little longer explanation, but hopefully it cleared up any questions you had after the here quoted post.

Goodbye everyone. It's been fun. I spent many many hours here on these boards and playing/contributing to FoF. Today I uninstalled my game and deleted all my files. I just don't have the time or interest anymore. I won't be coming back here anymore. I might show up in the IRC from time to time to chat. I regret nothing.
So long, farewell.
