A DirectX version would probably be faster, BUT it would screw over our Linux and Mac users. Multi-platform compatibility was the reason FoF was done in OpenGL in the first place.
Porting from Python to C++ wouldn't really be that tough, just tedious. I mean, we already have all the source code.

Yeah, DirectX is limited to Windows. It wouldn't be good for FoF to lose all it's Linux and Mac users. I think 3D animations are possible with FoF it's just not the time to do it right now. Even if we could just somehow quicken the loading speed of the picture cycles/animated backgrounds, I would be satisfied.
