If there's a Python library for DirectX, it'd take a lot of re-coding, but I imagine it being possible.

Unfortunately for you, most people here prefer the OpenGL it currently uses... Probably bcause it's a free library, pyOpenGL.

OpenGL supports 3D objects. 2D notes and keys were implemented in MFH-Alarian mod for performance reasons (although why a MegaLight theme wasn't also included bewilders me)

A DirectX version would probably be faster, BUT it would screw over our Linux and Mac users. Multi-platform compatibility was the reason FoF was done in OpenGL in the first place.

Porting from Python to C++ wouldn't really be that tough, just tedious. I mean, we already have all the source code.

Yeah, DirectX is limited to Windows. It wouldn't be good for FoF to lose all it's Linux and Mac users. I think 3D animations are possible with FoF it's just not the time to do it right now. Even if we could just somehow quicken the loading speed of the picture cycles/animated backgrounds, I would be satisfied.

It has been suggested.

A guy on SourceForge.net made a sort of FoF clone called "StringsOnSpeed"
but its faulty... 1 in probably 1000 people can actually get it to run.
