Since a few days back I've been suffering from the problem mentioned in the title, after playing happily for over a week. What happens is: I'm merrily rocking away with my sweet half pound plastic guitar, feeling like Dimebag himself. Ok, approaching the outro, almost finished. "You Rock". I still had a couple (of dozen) notes to play, but the game takes me to the screen with the star rating and such.
As you surely understand, this leads to me being unable to make any new highscores whatsoever, since it happens in both the career and quick play modes. I was able to finish a song in practise mode, which of course doesn't make the situation any better. So far I've tried reinstalling the game four times (on two different drives) and updating my video card drivers, all to no avail. I also manually cleaned every trace I could find of the game from my hard drive(s) and the registry before the latest installation. The version of the game I've used is the one from TPB provided by an anonymous nforce forum member, with and without the crack by hatred, mounted and burned .
Yes, the game I'm playing is a clonedvd image downloaded from the internet but that doesn't really explain the problem, since it only occurred recently. I do plan on buying the game when it hits the stores around here, but not without knowing for certain that I'll be able to actually play it.
I'd be extremely happy if someone could help me with this problem since it makes playing the game completely pointless.

Aspyr, you say? Yes, I do vaguely remember hearing that name somewhere... Still can't quite put my finger on it.
In all seriousness though, I'm not too optimistic about getting anything out of them (granted, I haven't tried) and was wondering if anyone here had run into the same problem and actually knew how to fix it.

Well, from what I've seen, people have yet to experience it.

This is probably the most help that you can get from the Aspyr support site before "opening a ticket": http://support.aspyr.com/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&root=211
The fact that they have a ticket system for customers should make you optimistic about getting a response. Give it a try.

I actually went and tried the ticket thing, we'll see if that'll lead to any sort of a useful answer. The proof-of-purchase thing tibiazak mentioned is one thing that worried me too, let's just hope they won't ask too many questions. Unless I find a solution to this I sure as hell am not buying the game (without knowing for 100% that this bug is caused by the game being pirated, that is).

Okay, got an answer from Aspyr. To sum it up, my GF8600 isn't technically supported and was left off the supported list "because of problems that could not be resolved", and that I should maybe try setting the graphics all the way down to solve the issue (the game runs completely smoothly already with higher settings). They also suggested that I should install the game on the C drive (can't see any real reason for this other than it being in the standard help reply).
Though I can't see how my video card or hard drive(s) could have suddenly gotten all screwed up with this as the only consequence, I think I'll give the install-on-C thing a try, if only because if I don't, it most certainly is the way to solve the problem.
Edit: Tried, absolutely no effect. Maybe I'll try and borrow one of the "supported" cards from one of my friends sometime, time will tell. Not putting too much hope on that doing any good, though, because as said the game did run just fine with my 8600 until recently.
