No virus or anything was in that link. It was just "suspicious."

YMS wrote:Forget that .dat thing. "dat" stands for "data", and that extension is used by all kinds of programs for, well, all kinds of data. Only that those files have the same extension does mean NOTHING. It's not a file format, just a naming coincidence, not even a rare one. Plus, X-Box 360 GH3 files are encrypted, so there will be no way to just only read them for at least quite while, if not for virtually forever.
And now for my part (with the PS2 conversion):
while (true)
System.out.println("All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.");
No, seriously, I'm working day and night on the file format and the conversion utility, and though I am able to get MIDIs now for quite a while, I haven't played more than 4 or 5 songs (or, to be exact, one time I played "One", 3 - 4 times I played "Kool Thing"). It's not that we are having fun with playing GH3 songs all the time and letting you wait, it's that the songs are not ready yet to be released to the public.
However, the converter is in it's fine-tuning stage now, but that doesn't mean that we will be able to get fully proper MIDIs too soon. There are still some problems and unknown things.
Believe me, as soon as we are able to release, we will do so. Don't push, it won't help!

nobby76 wrote:The format is being worked out. its getting there. Cama has posted a couple of Youtube vids of songs working in FoF one of them was a Boss Battle/ duel song. There just not gonna release anything until its working properly and at the moment its not 100%
But it is kinda way past extracting the pak files now, its kinda at the .. "We have the audio and notes working, but not quite right" Stage.
Kudos for the enthusiasm tho

I'm experienced enough to work this out for myself but I was hoping to save myself a bit of time by using information that's already known, and perhaps feeding some information back if I work anything new out.
I'm not expecting you to walk me through how to use a hexeditor, and I've been hacking custom data files since way back in the 80's when I was cracking C64 games, so it's not new to me.
If you aren't interested in sharing information, that's fine, I just don't really understand why, or what you possibly gain by doing so.

I've got 3 pythonscripts :
wadextract.py:
python wadextract.py hed_file wad_file output_directory
pakextract.py
python pakextract.py output_directory , pak_files_to_extract
midextract.py
python midextract.py .mid.qb.ps2_file output_mid_file
That lot should allow you to take a ps2 wad/hed file, and go all the way to a FOF mid file. However I'm not sure if all the notes are correct, the bpm is fixed at 125, and I don't know how to determine if the second track is rhythm / bass guitar. I hope they're instructive. You can grab them here. Apologies for using a nasty file serving service for a 3kb file, but I'm in a rush
