This extends upon Gamexprt1's post and combines it with an idea I had a while ago. After getting a FOF/RF mod/Capo's mod package, I realized my 'mod' section of the settings was extremely crowded and I had to toggle tons things and constantly go back in game to try and figure out what they did. Getting a nice looking configuration was a lot of work.

I don't have a good idea of what's possible, technically and time-wise, but here goes: what I propose is an in-game resource manager that could also double as a theme editor.

An embarrassing mock-up:

You could browse through lists of all the resources installed; necks, backgrounds, meshes, etc., which would also be immediately viewable in the preview section of the window. When you go to select glows/hitflames the notes would freeze in the 'hit' position. Other settings such as size and flame/note color could also be edited. Options such as basic colors, sounds, mods to be loaded along with the theme, and title graphics could be set in another menu.
When all settings are set, an .ini file could be saved, and the theme would then be easily selectable from a separate menu located elsewhere in the game.

So, what do you think? An impossible fairytale? A useless feature not fit for FOF? An amazing idea that must be started upon immediately? :p
If you have questions about the idea, I'll try to answer them.

Fantastic idea! I have been thinking the same thing over the past few days, but couldn't figure out a good way to go about it.

Nice pic too. I hope that someone can make it happen.

Thanks for the feedback, although I've never felt more ashamed of wasting Photoshop's potential than on making that graphic :p

This would require mouse support which we do not have xD

Then again, it doesn't necessarily have to be in-game. An standalone executable would be nice. Depending on how it's programmed will depend on how cross-platform it is.

Speaking from a design perspective here, I think it could function ingame if the tab section were selectable. If that's possible, you could switch between "lower-screens" and use the keyboard to select all the resources and settings.

While I have thought about it being an external program, I think it would be far more beneficial if it were built into the game itself.

I wish I knew how to code, so I could have a crack at it myself :/

I am just trying to imagine a way to implement that, would be hard. Umm, I'll have some free time in march, but don't count on that.

If you mean just browse images in the folder and such, this would be very easy to do in VB6 :D
My Songs:

Poison - Fallen Angel
Twisted Sister - I Wanna Rock
Thin Lizzy - Emerald
Judas Priest - Judas Rising

Drum player (Very good), Guitar player (Ok),Bass Player (W/e), Keyboard Player (Wtf?)
