Since the devs of Frets on Fire can port it to linux, mac and windows why couldn't they port it to xbox? The XDK (Xbox developers kit) is floating around the internet in vatious places. I guess you would need a mod chip or softmod but thats not that hard. If any developers are interested in trying this out I can help. The xbox CAN actually run linux and I have linux on mine so I might try out the linux frets on fire on it - I'll post my results when I do. Tell me what you guys think of this idea!

Two problems with that, if we made frets on fire into a disk we couldnt add songs, and xbox controllers wont feel like a guitar at all

If the above-mentioned XDK works for the Xbox 360 too, then there is hope of using that GH2 controller maybe

There is no reason that this wouldn't work well.

A modded xbox would run the game, and new songs could be added to the hard drive, the same way that files are transferred to it via ftp anyway. Infact, they could probably be stored on your PC and streamed via the network. Either way, new songs wouldn't be an issue.

Then just get yourself a PS2 to XBox adapter - e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/PS2-To-Xbox-Controller-Adapter/dp/B0007IQEIM
and you'd be ready to rock.

I'd certainly help test it.

For some reason last night I couldn't reply even though I was logged in but its working now. Anyways, as you were saying FozZ it would definitely be booted of the hard drive and put on it via ftp. Maybe even the possibilities of booting from a disc and accessing a folder on the hard drive for the songs. The possibilities are endless when your xbox is modded The hardest part of making this would be the 3D modeling. A freetar style game would be much easier to make but it's not nearly as fun.

The 3d models would just be converted, so that's not an issue. Once the code runs changing things like paths to songs, etc. would be very simple. Just need someone who is familiar with the XDK to get the game running.

Couple problems... the xbox xdk only supports direct 3d, hence the nvidia chipset. So first off everything would have to be re-written, unless you plan to run through xbox linux, however that only supports software opengl and seeing how fof runs on my much better pc a little laggy I couldn't see it running on the xbox linux at all.
Best case scenario would be to see fof ported over to c with direct 3d support, than with the sources it would be easily ported over to the xbox xdk. But than it would be running so much better on pc that we would all be putting lots of time into new graphics and backgrounds that'd we'd forget about porting it over and some guy from the xbox-scene forums would do it for us. lol So might as well focus on cleaning up the memory leaks in fof and dl super mario war for your xbox. hehe.

I find this unlikely to happen.

Right now FOF relies on a number of other libraries and toolkits in order to work.
PyOpenGL, pygame, amanith, and of course python. Some things may be easy to use the non python counterparts, but it's a huge undertaking.

Personally, if it was accomplished, I feel that FOF would run much smoother and with less CPU/memory resource usage. But it's not something that's going to magically happen.
