I have a Microsoft Wireless Desktop Elite keyboard, and its hard/impossible to use frets on fire with the F1-F5 buttons holding the keyboard like a guitar, but the keyboard does have 5 buttons that can be programmed as "My Favorites" to open up different things if you press them.
Mine are not configured.. and ive been trying all night to try to bind them to something and make them work in the game, because that would be PERFECT for frets on fire.
I've downloaded key mappers and everything, i even tried binding the 5 buttons to 1-5 and it still didnt work in the game, even though the rest of windows saw the buttons as 1-5.
In the key mapper i used the buttons have weird scancodes (57459 for example), so i at least know something reads them as unique. Now if i could only get frets on fire to know the keys are there... could that be implemented in the source code?

if this somehow began to work, those 5 key's + enter would be perfect for making the keyboard feel like holding a guitar, or at least it would feel very natural.

as far as using 1-5 as the 5 notes, you shouldn't have a problem with that. in case you didn't know already, with the latest version, after binding those keys, you need to restart the game for the changes to take effect. just saying...

i did... it just doesnt recognize those 5 buttons as actually keys that i can bind to.

as far as frets on fire knows.. those 5 keys dont exist.

edit: and oh yah, the numbers 1-5 work.. just to clear that up, just not the my favorites buttons

Uh well.. you can buy a cheap one.. that doesnt have that humplookingthingy with all those bttons... that what i did.
