How smooth is FoF gameplay on your system?

POLL: How smooth is your FoF performance?

Postby Metalhead » Mon Mar 09, 2009 9:34 pm

I have an older system (P4-HT 2.6GHz, ATI Radeon 9250 128MB AGP, 2GB RAM) that runs complicated 3D games like Half Life 2 and Neverball great, smoothly enough to run at 30-60 FPS and have really enjoyable gameplay.

FoF however, being written in Python instead of a normal programming language, suffers terrible performance on not only my system, but even state of the art systems like my friend's Dell 530 with 2 CPU Intel Core Duo and 4GB RAM. The performance is smoother on my friend's system, but still not stutter-free. It's a real bummer that I can play 3D games smoothly, but FoF (which has virtually no 3D animation to speak of!) runs very poorly.

What about you guys? Let's find out what portion of people are getting true smooth gameplay and how many are suffering with stutters like me and my friend.
I play on a Wii Guitar via Bluetooth USB and GlovePIE, in Windows 2000. I also play Guitar Hero 3, Guitar Hero World Tour, and Guitar Hero On Tour (Nintendo DS).

The sluggish performance of FOF (I run FoFiX 3.030) is downright shameful and should be moved away from Python as quickly as possible. (In the meantime, I play through all the stutters because it's still damn fun being able to play 3rd party frets!)

2.6 GHz Core Duo, 2 gigs of ram and a 8800GT.

Waiting on Windows 7 to be released because the game ran perfectly for hours on end no stutters but regardless of what version of FoF, mods and themes I run under XP it tends to start stuttering at some point and I have to restart the game; reducing settings and running slim themes only delays it by a bit but it always happens.

Mystery to me.... possibly driver/OS related or something because it ran fine in Vista too but I hate Vista period.

I'm running Vista on an Acer Aspire 4520, and it's virtually perfect. It runs good if I have Firefox closed. I love it.

Iam running fofix on a machine, that can barely take it,
with all the fancy stuff on like: in game text , animated stuff and anti aliasing.
But with that stuff all off and settings low , It runs pretty smooth.
Except when missing alot of notes , than it stutters a bit , and when I dont succeed to get the rythm back,
it gets even worse, sometimes so bad that I have to pause the game to give my computer some time to get back on track.

i hope this update will have some improvement on that .

Thanks , it probably will get rid of some amount of lag, but I aint gonna give up the RB2 theme from KID.
Plus I also have a better computer downstairs, so if I want to set some highscores I can use that machine.

My machine runs it okay... Sometimes it will lag, breaking a combo... but it happens maybe once every three songs... I'd imagine it's an issue with my hard drive.

I have an ATI X1650 pci express 256MB
X2 4000+
2gb ram
windows xp
I keep my system very clean and running good.

I'm running at 1280 x 720 with no AA. I have to turn some of the eye candy off, but it normally doesn't studder much at all. Some songs are worst than others it seems.

In a couple days i'm about to order a ATI HD4750 1GB (maybe a better cpu in few months)
so a big jump in video card. I excited to see what difference it will make and if I can ramp up settings to the highest.

Hey wseyller, if it's not too much to ask, could you update me (or this thread) when you get that new video card? I was considering upgrading video cards myself. But mainly to improve FoF performance. It'd be nice to know if a new card would help or not.

I have hp Pavilion a6000n
Dont know much about computers but side of it says:
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
1024MB system memory
Vista
Dont know what kind of graphics card -- how do I look that up?
**Is this any good???

I run at 1280 x 720. Use FoFiX with either GH3, or GHWT Theme. Dont really mess with any of the settings.

I usually just end any processes I'm not using to free up memory. The game runs damn near perfect for me. Have a few friends that play FOF but it doesn't run as smooth on theirs.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this game and makes it what it is! Much love for doing what you do!!!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 overclocked to 3GHZ
4GB Ram
VIsta, XP and windows 7 triple Boot
ATI HD4870 (I love this card so much)

RUNS amazing on my PC on all OS's
I can get over like 200fps at 1920x1080

Im getting the new intel core i7 and two GTX 295 so that would be
interesting to see how FoFiX runs.

On the other hand my notebook can only play up to alarian 2.9....

Why do people always say this? What's the difference between 2.9 and 3.0 that causes such a performance spike?

Mine runs at about 50 fps, with the occasional stutter. I have a core 2 duo (1.5Ghz) laptop with 2GB ram and a GeForce 8400M (the "M" apparently stands for "Crap").
FPS cuts down to about 20 when I'm alpha testing FoFiX on python 2.6, but even then, apart from the occasional stutter it still seems pretty smooth (as much as it possibly can at 20 fps, anyway).
One day I'll upgrade and get a computer with a better processor and graphics card.

Acer Aspire 5920G, Core Duo 2 GHZ, 2GB RAM, Geforce 8600M GT

I've never seen FoF (any verison) perfectly "smooth" as original GH/RB, but since getting FoFiX with Megalight theme things got much better than with Alarian for me. There's always a minimal stuttering but most of the time is negligible, with user-created songs (which have a single track to handle), but with songs from GH/RB's I get some heavy stuttering here and there, expecially with themes like GHIII or RB2, so I mostly play with Megalight.

i have a good computer (i think)

Vista
CPU 2.59GHZ x2
3GB of ram
nVidia 9500GT ddr2 (512 mb)

but my fofix run bad, some lags
game crashed often
already try different sets
my fofix is actually set on 25 fps, priority 5 *real time* 640x480 on windows
i can play ~correctly~ in medium level but when i play in hard or expert (images stop and game lags, hopo not works....)

i play with alarian 2.7 (i can play without lags only on this version... xD)
