With all of the detail settings turned to low, and the PC set to 32-bit color, this game suffers from bad lag. Below are my system specs:

Core 2 Duo 6300
Evga Geforce 7600 gs
1 GB RAM

Any help would be appreciated.

Are we talking about lag, or is the music being played in slow motion?

The entire game lags, not just slow motion music.

Defrag your harddrive.
Get another gig of RAM.

Only 2 things I could think of.

Get another gig of RAM.

Today I runned FOF on machine with 256 mb ram and Radeon 9250, and this was more than enough. Or at least it
didn`t lag that bad.
I suggest updating drivers and installing new DerectX.

P.S. What programms are running in the background? It`s possible that they eat all the ram and cpu.

Yes, and I had recently installed new graphics card drivers, defragged my hard drive, and i know directX is up to date. I just got it running at full speed, with full settings. It turns out that I have to play it a bit first to achieve full speed. Is this normal?

its also been seen a few times if you have the settings on REALLY low it causes more problems than having it on a medium setting, try turning the SVG settings to normal , that seems to sort out some slowness issues.
People were having this problem when they put the " DARK MOD " on FoF
