I just downloaded FoF last night, and I've already downloaded a couple gigs worth of songs.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone involved with Frets on Fire: The coders, the artists, the modders, and of course, the fretters. Thanks to the folks in the Tech Support forum, I've overcome a few issues by browsing through your wisdom there.

Thanks to the mods of this forum and the wiki, finding everything has been made very easy thanks to your efforts.

I'm having a blast. I'm using my old PS2 Black SG controller through a cheap PS2pad-to-USB converter (its a two-porter, dunno the make or model, but its a clear-blue wedge-shaped unit I got of eBay years ago (originally to use my PS2 controller for various PC games, but it's damn handy for StepMania and Frets On Fire).

Thanks again to all the folks who've turned Frets On Fire into what it is today.

Peace!
700+ songs fretted!!

I think the people who are huge helpers with fof don't get enough thanks. Glad to see you're enjoying yourself here. :p FoF is something that can entertain me for hours, and I agree thank you everyone who helped make this game wut it is.

This is the only game that I've actually liked, so I'm glad it's so awesome.

Now, this is what I'm talking about, nice to hear (or to read) there are some ppl who actually take their time to thank for this awesome game. Welcome to the forum, I hope you're gonna be active member, not a leecher. Unfortunately, 90 % of this forum population are leechers

I just downloaded Alarian mod last night, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It feels very polished. I'm kinda bummed that my PS2pad adapter doesn't support the whammy bar, but I'll bet I could hack together a Star-power stomp-box with my Wii Balance board or DDR dance pad (Wouldn't THAT be awesome...). Heck, it could probably support two people, one for each side....

My girlfriend plays bass, and sometimes we play Rock Band together, although she gets frustrated with the strum bar. She's trained to strum with both her index and middle finger, and the RB guitar controller's strum bar is just plain weak sauce. Its not responsive enough for either of us, really. I've considered modding it, but I've put it off until I try out one of Mad Catz's 3rd party guitars - their bass model sports a split strum bar, which would allow her to play faster notes a lot more accurately using both fingers. Hopefully it'll work in FoF without much trouble. I've got GH3 for the Wii, but I'm planning on sending it to in-activision for a refund (got until the end of the month to get that sent back). Shipping it in mono was a HUGE mistake on their part, and they're likely going to lose all my business to EA & Rock Band because of their inaction in getting it resolved.

I have kind of *******-ish neighbors below us, so I don't get to play drums as often as I'd like to, but once we move out, we'll have a little more freedom to play freely.

As far as other gaming interests go, I'm a 2-year member of BDS, The Beer Drinking Squad and an admin on our game servers. They used to be a DoD:S Clan, but a lot of the higher-ups play COD4 almost exclusively. My box isn't quite up to snuff for COD4 (still running Win2k!), but we still run a DOD:S Server and a CS:S Gun Game server (which is still pretty popular, actually - and a lot of fun). I play a ton of TF2, as well - can't wait for the Heavy achievement pack and new maps to come next week.

That said, a lot of the forum rules here are mirrored in my clan's forum rules. Racism in any form on either the servers or the forum will get you instantly perma-banned. I have a feeling I'll feel right at home ^_^

Thanks for the warm welcome, folks. Seems like a fun place.

If your Dance Dance pad has usb or bluetooth, I think it could work.

Someone made a bass pedal out of cardboard for FoF, too, so maybe you could do something like that.

Spoiler:

It's not a real goose, it's only a picture of one.

Well, now that you mention it...

Just kidding! I know about the Python memory leak thing, and I've been tweaking things here and there to make sure the FPS stays steady. I get some stuttering during game play, but I'm tweaking performance to get things more steady. Occasionally, a stutter throws me off rhythm, or eats a strum and breaks my combo...

One thing I noticed is that when I increased its Priority, certain screens take longer to load. Prolly something with my system though. It's a box I built a few years ago, but its starting to show its age: Athlon XP 2600+ with 1GB of Ram, and an older ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9800 (AGP 8X)... hardly cutting edge, but it gets the job done with Source engine games & StepMania. I haven't updated my video drivers for a while, but I don't think that there have been that many improvements for the 9800 series boards for some time.

Upgrading the system would be an expensive proposition, since the first thing I'd have to do is get a new Mobo, CPU, RAM, and Video card. *sigh* Of course, then I should probably get an new OS too... I'm running into a lot of problems getting new stuff to run on Win2k (Like Fretbuzz - the software that the Guitar Zeros use to make real music with GH controllers needs XP or newer...).
The cool one :D
