I've set it up for someone else once. Pretty easy and straightforward: http://mlipod.sourceforge.net/

iTunes can suck it

Just asking...

Is there any effort being done in porting FoF to a decent language (i.e. one of the C-derivates like C++ or C#)? I'd very much like to join in then. I've got a bit of experience in both languages as well as related tech (DirectX etc.). So, please mail me if something is going on and someone wants to setup a sourceforge project...

BTW: I think XNA would be a great target platform for the game - we could easily port it from Windows to the 360 then...

Bye,
Michael

Everytime somebody votes here and brings this topic up in the "New Posts" list, I find myself wondering what's the point here anyway.

I'm a computer scientist, and I don't really see any advantages in a quite big and problematical port.
FoF on X-Box? More a "would be possible"-thing than anything a nameable amount of players would really use.
Performance speedup? In theory, maybe, though unproofed (has anyone some performance comparison tables?). In practice, the game runs fast enough on modern-day computers.
Features that are possible in C(++), but not in Python? Sure don't exist, though in C there exist more pre-built libraries that may already be able of some things that would have to be implemented in Python first. But nothing's impossible.

So, what's this all about? Python is a great language for developing such things, since it's easy to read and write, and hardly error-prone.

Why do you think porting it to C++ will make it any better?

And yeah, XNA would be great if you want to tie your game into Microsoft.

well im no coder but id imagine that theres one thing thatll be better, we can get a whammy bar goin with c++ because although you cant change the sound of something playing on python im pretty sure u can on c++. And I bet if C++ was used we could even get some video backgrounds as opposed to pics. But who could convert it I wonder lol

This thread is retarded.

Of course if it were re-coded in c++ or something we would all give it a try. why not?

Is it going to be happen? probably not.

How did this topic get this many responses?

C++ is not so better then anyother language..
all languages have "same" conditions to do good programs..
A notable difference its coz c++ is so more famous than any another language (I think it will change soon.. with java :D), and have too many more documents and support.. but c++ isn't better then pascal, python, and others..

I'm pascal programmer, and I can make you all sure about that
To make on C++ a program better than if its have been make on another language you need to understand too much the language, and you can do that in any other language too.

About the project, good luck..
Do that, and lets see :-)

I'd definitely be all over it for a couple reasons:

1-C++ can be optimized much better than python, lowering minimum machine requirements
2-C++ FoF would be port-able to Xbox

I had a thought. What if we pooled money into an fof paypal account, and used it to hire a scriptlance programmer? He/she would have to do it the way we said, keeping it open-source and all, it would just take a long time for modders/OUR devs to figure out because of the drastic change.

EDIT: Would this incur unwanted copyright attention? I doubted it myself since it would be freelance and all.

I think it would be a great opportunity to offer FoF to a greater target audience. Especially as 360 users cannot just use a hacked GH version (they risk loosing their xbox live account if they do), I think given them the opportunity to play custom songs with FoF would really win the game a great fan base.

@YMS
As your professional background is obviously pretty important to you: I have got two degrees in Computer Science myself. In my oppinion, Python is not the preferred language of choice for FoF - various reasons have already been discussed here. However, I do agree that it's not the language, but rather the code clarity that would improve by porting it to a different system. I think anyone who ever tried adapting the game knows that Python game actually imposes a very unnatural code structure upon FoF....

lol why doesn't someone go to a C++ forum, post the project and see who wants to help.....
You might actually make a developing team, and if you assemble a large enough team(including 3D animators and graphic designers) then you guys will get it done fast. With this "MEGATEAM" a whammy bar, star power and a fully animated background would be completely possible. However it will be crossing the boundaries of FoF and GZ.
