Sucking at RB after playing FoF?

Postby DreXxiN » Tue Mar 03, 2009 7:57 pm

Since FoF I feel like my playing skill has been AMAZING. Like really good, i 5*'d everything in puppetz' ultimatum campaign. Now when I try to play the Afterlife solo, I do horrible, I mean like, barely reaching 70%. It could be anything like perhaps the fact that in solo sections it "strums" everytime you press a solo button, or it could be my HDTV lag (shouldn't be, I have it set to LCD). It also doesn't help that there is no hyper speed. I just want to get RB2 and join a band on my PSN friend list, but I want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong or FoF isn't making my playstyle bad. Anyone else having this problem?

(I also do pretty bad at the jordan solo on GH2 as opposed to FoF where I kill it)

That's because FOF makes it easier.

if you use in FOF a wider note hit window its normal that you will have in rb problems because there the note hit window is quite tight. you need to set a smaller note hit window in FOF if you want to have an equal feeling.

Try playing with strict/standard or strict/tight to get a similar feel to rb.

It's similar to playing GHIII and trying to play GHII. A lot of people say the engine is messed up, but in reality, it's just too easy in FoF. Just yesterday I went over to my friend Corey's house and we played Afterlife. I was on expert and I could not hit the tapping solo on my life.

Ah... I never thought of it like that. Personally, I thought it was just going from lag, to not lag. Well, to me, because I use a crappy computer...

I'd rather play GHWT it has a larger note hit window and it's more challenging
Even though FOF has sweet ass songs i'm still drawn to the console and the is no difference between FOF and GHWT

<@away_xbox> Looks like it's your lucky day Amak11 >:) Since i don't see Amak here ill choose somebody else....
* @away_xbox straps 15 sticks of TNT to Amak11's body. The display reads [58] seconds.
<@away_xbox> Diffuse the timer by cutting the correct wire. There are 14 wires. They are Green White Peenus Indigo Black Gold Grey Brown Violet Turquoise Teal Magenta Mauve and Yellow.
<Amak11> oh really
<Belisario93> hmm
<Amak11> !cutwire Peenus
<@away_xbox> ...snip....
<@away_xbox> Amak11 cut the Peenus wire. This has defused the timer on the TNT! Just try and get it off you without setting it off, ok?

There is a noticable difference between most of the retail Guitar Hero & Rock Band releases as far as difficulty is concerned. Mostly with the hit window for the notes. These games do not many options if any to customize difficultly. FOF is designed to be very versitile to have every option possible that any user could imagine and want. The only drawback if you can even consider it that, is the idea that it can be confusing especially to new users as far as configuring the extensive number of options available. Just to name a few related to this post: Hit window options - usually wide, standard, & tight. You can also change the fretboard speed maybe even so that to emulate hyperspeed. There are many options for the speed such as by beats per minute, difficulty and different combinations and also the ability to set percentages of those. The point is that you can adjust the settings to make FOF way harder than any RB or GH series if you desire.

I find when I play FOF for awhile and then try RB or any GH my timing is usually a bit off. It may take a few songs to get it back or sometimes even a few days depending on how long I've been away.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this game and makes it what it is! Much love for doing what you do!!!

A big difference is that RB and GH dont use early hit windows, you can turn that on in options in FoF

you mean you should turn "Early Hit-Window" to "none" in order to make the game harder (more like the consoles games)?

Exactly, when doing this make sure your A/V sync is nearly perfect or else you''ll be missing alot of notes....

That is because of the Hit window that you chose. Try tight hit window as RB is using tight hit window I think. Try tight for a few months and play RB.
