I'm wanting to make one of these too. How are you doing the keyboard? are you cutting the plastic underneath the rubber buttons on the keyboard or what?

Very nice! Im trying to mod my keyboard, but I accidentally snapped the wires that go from the pc to the pcb board. Its red, white, green and yellow wires, and I cant remember the order (from top to bottom) they were soldered to the board. Maybe you have the same type of keyboard, In which order should the wires be?

That may be particular to the brand of keyboard that you have. what make/model is it?

just a quick side note , i see you all want to rip apart your keyboards to make a guitar.
Im almost finished making mine and i can honestly say " use a joypad instead of a keyboard" its so much simpler to wire up to buttons, there is no having to check which circuit track goes where, you can see exactly where each wire has to go.
Im using a cheap £10 wireless joypad, so if i chose i could be sat taking a dump and still play the game ( as long as i could see the screen) and seeing as FoF can be run off a cd or even a USB stick, if you was brave enough you could grab a laptop and go busking in the streets .

As for the buttons, I'm removing the entire flexible matrix PCB and replacing it with a push button that will connect the 2 desired points together. Ive just got too go buy some push on switches then i can continue :)

ohh i get it now. you should just use a usb gampad becuase then you can do those 3 button chords! this is the one im using for my homebrew guitar http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=880786

i just took it apart and it looks promising, easy soldering job - just solder the wires to the pcb to the buttons

Yup. A gamepad is so much easier to do, less fuss or mess, and you can do 3,4 or 5 button chords.

Im using a logitec joypad too, mines a few up the scale from yours tho, its wireless for starters and has a few more buttons. idealy you want 7 buttons + the UDLR controls, that way you can have your menu controls on the guitar too!

Mines done now i wanted it done by christmass so i worked on it till 2:30 am every night, the week before chrimbo. Its so worth the effort. (Strange tho, other people didnt like me spraying paint , in my bedroom at 1 am, in winter ) :D :D

It looks pretty cool, I wanted to make one myself but I'm probably going to make a BC RICH warlock replica.

Btw is that homemade thing heavy? It looks quite heavy. How do you plan to hold it then?

its not heavy at all :) its a 1:2 scale model of a fender stratocaster design, and the middle piece is a hollowed out pine piece, which is very very light, its actually lighter then the original keyboard was :)

Any ideas on how to hold it on? Easiest and cheapest way: Tape a strip of cloth to wherever you think will achieve the best balance.
