Real guitar?

What would you like to see added or fixed in FOF?

Hey,

From a techincal perspective, shouldn't it be possible to let the user have a real guitar and let him play for real and only use audio input to figure out what he is doing?

Would it require quite a good mic? Electric guitar?

Is a tone always inside an given range?

Can somebody who actually knows how to play guitar shed some light on how it works? =)

How would the gameplay be with a real guitar? (Obviously ahellofalot harder)

Hugs!

Definitely a good mic and a precise hand :p

Don't forget the correct electric guitar

One would of course let it be quite fuzzy in it's deciding of tones. Thinking artificial neural networks.

If I hit two strings at the same time it makes a completly different sound, no?

How many combinations in total of sounds are we talking about?

That's nothing.

Should be a no-brainer to do this then. I'm guessing somebody already have some software to tune their guitars. Hopefully there are open source versions of that too, so I don't have to write to much code.

You forgot something; if you strum two strings, it won't produce a different sound, it will produce two sounds, which means the program will detect two sounds instead of one whole

So it's actually two tones very-very close to each other in time?
Or are they indeed mixed up a lil' bit and can be seen as one sound (even if it's a bit longer).

its 2 different strings making there own sounds just together. the game would get confused. and you would have to read sideways. it would be possible i think, but I also think it would take the fun out of it. it would make it to hard. and not everyone can play guitar.

Only maybe 2 people would use it if you actually made it.

Why not just play real guitar, without having it hooked up to FoF?

I don't get your logic in why this would be fun/practical/worth my time.

Goodbye everyone. It's been fun. I spent many many hours here on these boards and playing/contributing to FoF. Today I uninstalled my game and deleted all my files. I just don't have the time or interest anymore. I won't be coming back here anymore. I might show up in the IRC from time to time to chat. I regret nothing.

So long, farewell.

agreed
i don't think it would even work. say you strum the 3rd and 5th fret on a gutiar on the same string the 3rd fret and everything behind the 5th fret would not show up makeing every choad on fof impossible to play.

The idea basiclly is to learn how to play guitar. One would need to start out with really simple tunes.

In my oppinion it's boring as **** to learn how to play guitar, but I've spent weeks and weeks on guitar hero. Might as well invest that energy in learning how to play a real guitar. That's all. A modern guitar trainer. From what I see there are plenty of those out there, so throwing on a FoF frontend shoulnd't be all that hard.

Didn't follow thread, I have some ideas though.

1. Buy a 1/4 Inch Female to 1/8 Inch Male Converter and hook up the guitar to the computer.

2. Use a midi guitar and have tablature flying at you instead of 5 notes
