In my opinion, the best music thrives on contrast and when your song is blast beats/breakdowns the whole way, totally dissonant, and not much variation in the styles used then I think it's generally very boring. The best metal songwriting in my opinion is upbeat, relaxed, melodic, badass, complex, and straightforward.

By the by, I've yet to hear a deathcore song that I thought wasn't bullsht in terms of songwriting. That's basically what I've been thinking of as my examples.
