I'd seriously doubt it. Everything from the size of the neck, the replacement of various parts, to the length and tension of the strings, all of these things could pose a serious problem.

Even if it could be done, which is doubtful, you have no way of knowing that the hardware in the guitar for Pro Mode would function properly afterwards.

I see it far more likely that one could modify a bass to double as a Pro Instrument, but that can not be said with any certainty until the Pro Guitar is available and people have hacked around with it for a bit.

You certainly could look into it. The Presidents of the United States of America do something very close to that.

If I recall correctly, they don't use the full allotment of strings, and instead, use the thinner bass strings on their modified instruments. They also tune them quite a bit lower, which I can only assume, has to do with the tension issues I would be concerned with.

Too much hassle for a Pro controller, if you ask me.

Official news regarding updating legacy DLC:

hmxhenry wrote:Hey gang,

Sorry for the confusion surrounding the DLC announcement this week. The information I posted earlier may not have been the most helpful, partially because it wasn’t entirely correct. A lot has happened in the last two hours. The long and short of it is that we’re going to have new RB3 files that add keys and harmonies as well as add-on content that enables Pro Guitar and Pro Bass. The new information is that the add-ons for Pro G/B should be available for both the new RB3 file and your existing file.

To be clearer, this means there will be three files you can download in the future for Legacy DLC songs where Pro Guitar/Pro Bass is being made available:

· The new “RB3 Version” of a song, including traditional GBDV, keys (pro and regular) and harmony vocals
· A “Pro Guitar/Pro Bass” upgrade for that “RB3 Version”, allowing you to have the whole experience
· A “Pro Guitar/Pro Bass” upgrade for legacy “RB2 era DLC”. This will skip Keys and Harmonies being added (those are only in the “RB3 Version”, but allow you to purchase the Pro Guitar/Bass add-on without rebuying the core song file.

To reiterate, if you stick with your RB2 legacy track and want to upgrade to pro guitar/bass – you will not have access to Keys, Pro Keys or harmony vocals. If you want that latter content, you need to purchase the “RB3 Version” of the file.

As for the Bon Jovi tracks coming out next week, you’ll currently only be able to get the Pro Guitar / Bass upgrades for the RB3 Versions of the tracks, but moving forward you should see Pro Guitar/Bass upgrade options for legacy re-releases. We’ll update this thread when we have a timeline for those add-ons. Sorry again for the mix up, and I’ll continue to clarify in this thread as more questions pop up.

So in a nutshell, you can upgrade legacy DLC if they make pro bass/guitar available. But if you want keys/harmonies, you will be required to buy the new RB3 chart (pro bass/guitar would be the $1 or so extra after this cost). After you buy a RB3 version of a chart, it will be listed separately from the pre-RB3 version of the chart. Online multiplayer will require all parties involved to have the same chart, whichever of the two it is. It's not clear at this time if they had the foresight to make sure both versions don't end up in the same random setlist or other similar annoyances.

Why is it that custom characters are incredibly ugly.

I dunno what you mean by custom, they're all made the same way. You can re-create all prefab characters very easily.

My guess is that you have the Wii version of RB3. My brother complains about the custom made characters all the time, and the character graphics.

Well maybe on the wii version if you don't use customs it plays a pre-rendered video as opposed to custom where they have to render the characters actively.

Nope, it's on the X360. I hate it that the stock faces (like the Artsy face) look nothing like their RB2 counterparts. The only thing I can come up with is randomizing the face and tweaking it so faces look even LOOKABLE. Makes me sad ):

Also, the way mouths move when they sing makes everybody look like an old person (wrinkles show up)

Another issue: When playing all instruments mode, you can't have double of the same instrument (If there's a keyboard, bass and guitar in your band, you can pretty much just play RB3 songs.)

The White Stripes - "Seven Nation Army" (RB DLC)

Total: 20
On-Disc: 2
RB DLC: 15
RBN DLC: 3

Disclaimer: I'm not including Paranoid as it's different. It's like comparing the versions of Grapevine. Cover/Master is different to cover/different cover.

Guitar Hero songs on Rock Band 3 wrote:Anthrax - "Caught In A Mosh" (GH:SH)
At the Drive-In - "One Armed Scissor" (GH:WT)
Avenged Sevenfold - "Beast and the Harlot" (GH:SH [Currently non-exportable])

Devo - "Whip It" (BH)

Spacehog - "In The Meantime" (GH5)
Stone Temple Pilots - "Plush" (GH DLC)
T. Rex - "20th Century Boy" (GH5)

Total: 19
On-Disc (Exportable to GH:WoR): 10
On-Disc (Non-Exportable to GH:WoR): 6
DLC: 3

Disclaimer: I'm only including GH:WT-onwards songs. Not a fair comparison including songs that only have guitar/bass/rhythm. Also, I'm classing songs that are both on-disc and DLC as whatever they came as first.

Songs on both Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3 wrote:Jane's Addiction - "Been Caught Stealing"
Phoenix - "Lasso"
Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody"
The Vines - "Get Free"

Total: 4

As we can see, RB's going mainly for GH's on-disc songs, while GH is going for a lot of RB's DLC. Also, I expected more shared on-disc songs, so 4 is nice.
