I think you can do it by following the guitar/drums method.

thank you, but i mean WAY more of a mess than drums or guitar. and both guitar and drums have to be aligned in their own specific way. and from the way this looks there is no way those methods will work with vocals. i mean the notes or whatever are EVERYWHERE!!!

Of course its everywhere. Dude, you're talking about vocals. So, you have to align them on your own. Or just chart it by ear.

alright, i'll give it a shot. i just didnt know if there was a specific way to align them like with the instruments.

and do vocals still just c8 and the 4 lanes above it? just seems like it would use more...

Harmonix has noted in their RBN documentation that the vocal track is NOT quantized (grid snapped) to the beat markers. The vocal track is just a lyric event and MIDI note for each syllable, with the duration of the note matching the sung duration of the syllable. The range of note numbers is 36 to 95 (inclusive).

If you want, you can PM me a MIDI to look at, but if Guitar Pro/TuxGuitar/other tab application doesn't export in the typical KAR derivative format, then there may be little that can be done to salvage the notes/lyrics.

oh so its C4 - B8?

wow... why would you ever need 4 whole octaves?

Because many people are capable of this range, even though the game only scores on the note, not the octave. This entire range is actually used within a single song. For example, Twisted Sister- I Wanna Rock (from GH:SH) uses vocal pitches 36 through 84.

Some new development regarding this issue:

I'm testing some new logic in my converter that will allow you to import vocal pitches from a MIDI even if no lyrics are given. The catch is that I have to use something as a placeholder, so the lyric "*" is used wherever a pitch is loaded, and chords are intentionally ignored since conventional solo singing is done in notes and not chords. If a chord is found in the MIDI, the first note of the chord that is defined in the MIDI is kept, and the other notes that form the chord are dropped. You'll have to ensure that the imported pitches sync to whatever song you have and are otherwise accurate in pitch and timing, but exporting to VL or Vocal Rhythm should make it pretty easy to test and correct the sync. You'll also have to add your own line breaks and lyrics. Some screen caps:

Here are the files involved in case anybody wants to look at them:

I have noticed that Anvil Studio consistently displays MIDIs exported by Guitar Pro incorrectly. This 7 track MIDI, for example, opens and displays as if it is 16 tracks. Make no mistake though, the "Kyo" track has the pitches we wanted to import.

VL is a lyric format used by the VividLyrics editor. Vocal Rhythm was a format that ryanpanties and I created to make it easier to chart vocals with an editor like EOF or Feedback (one fretted note per syllable, and the lyrics and pitch for each syllable is written in a separate text file).
