i trying to figure out which antivirus is the best to use. i've had to install xp twice and now i'm running on windows 7 build 6801. I need to know for wqhen i reinstall my xp.

tried
kapersky anti-virus - slows down computer way to much
avira anti-vir - hate annoying beeps. updates fail

i want something thats not going to hog resources and become annoying

I recommend Avast. It's free for home use. Go to http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html. Hope it helps.

if you want to stay strictly legal, AVG is apparently not a bad one either, i know several people that use it.

if you don't care legal or illegal, nod32 is AWESOME, and it works fine on win7. it's just a retail product, so legally it's like $40 a year.

Between AVG, Avira, COMODO (not a bad one) and ClamWin, any of those should be fine. Particularly Avira. COMODO is a bit tempermental with programs, but it will behave if you work magic with it.

Antivirus 2009/Spyware Gaurd 2009.

That's a joke. Don't ever install that. Ever. I warned you, and I mean it.

AVG is good for the windows boxen. I don't have Windows at home, but we use it at work.

I use Malwarebytes anti-malware

It gets rid of all kinds of malware, adware, and viruses. AND IT'S FREE!!

Stopzilla works for me. Back on my family's computer, we went through 5 anti virus programs.

Avast! gets my vote. Of course, using TeaTimer and PeerGuardian on top of that helps as well.
