The rf mod is great, but the fact that the notes don't disappear when you hit them makes it hard to see where you miss in songs with a lot of notes. So I just copied some code from the last fof version to the rf mod, but then I had to heavily modify it to cover most scenarios like when you hit a long note but then you miss in the middle of it and stuff like that. I also added some small effect for the strumming though it's not really that noticeable.

Just insert those files in the /data/library.zip in your fof folder, over-writing the already existing files.

I'm using the noob edition notes and the ghII mod, so I don't know how well everything might look in other setups. YOU DO NEED RF MOD 3.5 INSTALLED.

In the .ini file, in theme I added an extra entry for the hopo notes called hopo_color2, which is for the color of the black ring, so if you want the hopo notes to look like guitar hero you should have these in your theme section (white for both):
hopo_color = #FFFFFF
hopo_color2 = #FFFFFF

I really haven't had much time to test everything, and this is the first time I try python so I hope there are not many bugs.
My mod (for fof version 1.2.451):

Latest release (5.23), there's a readme in there to install & stuff (source code included).

Works great and now I can see hopo notes more clearlier. Try to set hopo_color = #000000 then you can see them much clearlier :)

nice job capo! :D
now i don't even see a need to use the newer version of fof unless the rf v4.0 mod has more features than v3.5

Yesterday I was tired and I forgot to include one extra file, but it doesn't affect the gameplay, it was just to create the entry in the .ini for the hopo color, but if you added it manually it works too.

new link

I included the src files I modified, and now I included the mod compiled with the whole library and .exe file (just in case), so to install only put the library.zip in your data directory and replace your .exe file (you probably don't need to, though), and with this release you can delete your hopo_color entries in the .ini and the game will create them automatically.

I'm actually kind of embarassed of the code, it began well but then I needed to consider more scenarios and I just kept adding variables and it got messy, plus there is also the fact that I don't know python.

Btw, this implementation is not the same as the one in the last fof version, yes they both disappear the notes but if you compare them you'll see they are different approaches.
