Memory leak is a much bigger problem.
edit: I was able to play several songs in a row, in windowed mode, without any noticeable lag; then, to my surprise, I realized I had even left Firefox open with several tabs.
Usually, I try to play with Firefox open by accident, and see all the lag and say "oh - I forgot to close Firefox again..."
I was amazed at how smooth the game ran while several browser tabs were actively updating content in the background!
edit2: Linux rules... you people who use Linux for all your computing needs are awesome. I've tried several times to make the switch but find myself anchored to Winblows for one reason or another. Mostly it's because I can't afford to not have access to my work applications while I get up to speed with Linux, but at some point I'm going to set up a second computer and make it happen.
edit3: (that's right, edit 3) To any Linux users out there -- have any of you attempted to re-compile pygame and it's dependencies? I've actually set up a virtual machine with Linux and am messing around with it because recompiling pygame in Windows really is driving me crazy -- and I read that it's a snap in Linux...

++Figure out why the background of "Song List Settings -> Select Song Library" now shows the "Options" background underneath instead of black
