There's only 2 things you really need for this to work. One is your guitar hero controller ( http://www.redoctane.com for those of you who are already missing the first item) and a ps2 to usb adapter.

Since I couldn't find the official adapter from RedOctane like the one I have, I found this one via Google.

http://baysoftgames.stores.yahoo.net/superdualbox.html

However, upon plugging in my guitar controller, I found that the fret buttons worked just fine, but the game did not accept the strum bar as a gamepad button, so I used a program called "Joy2Key."

http://www.electracode.com/4....4en.zip

Using this program I was able to set the strum bar motions (down-left and up-left) both to be read as a keystroke of the "enter" key (you can set the actions to any key).

Thats about it. Good luck.

You can get an adapter for any controller at pretty much any electronics store. RadioShack and Best Buy both have some decent ones.

I'm glad you brought that up, actually. I haven't tried one from Best Buy, but certain key combinations (especially evident when trying to use a DDR pad) will NOT be picked up by the RadioShack ps2 to usb converter. I can only assume something similar might happen with the guitar controller. The RadioShack converter is about $5 cheaper than most, but stay away from it.

Any similar setup for linux? Like perhaps an alternative to joy2key?

I used a program called "AutoHotKey" and it all worked perfectly for me. All of it works, the Fret's and the strumming.

Heres a video to show you guys how slick it works.

Yea, AutoHotKey doesn't have a linux version. But I've found a small odditiy: calibration programs can find the guitar and such, but FoF doesn't. Even stranger, I know it's trying to open /dev/input/js0 twice, despite working the first time.

Actually, it seems I was using an older build of FoF somehow. But it still has the problems recognizing the guitar's strum. Perhaps they should build support into the game for using an axis as a strum?

Hey guys!

I am from Germany and unfortunately they don't sell GH controllers without the game here, at least I didn't find out anything. I don't have a PS2 so I only need the controller, so if anyone has a clue if there is a way to get one without buying the game, just tell me.

Maybe I could buy the game, get the controller und sell the game at eBay, but I bet nobody will want to buy it without a controller ^^

i use my gh controller in linux.
build 192 of FOF required a key mapper
i used this one for linux as its very easy
its called
Qjoypad

with the new 225 build... i no longer require Qjoypad in linux to use my strum bar.
also .. i use the radio shack usb converter with is automatically detected and setup with zero configuration just like in windows.

in fact i find that FoF plays better in nix than windows!

those using windows and looking for a very user friendly distro check out [url=http://www.freespire.org]Freespire

hereis a review of freespire that i wrote over at Gotux.org
