Whats with the speedy solos?

This variable tempo support seems to be the cause. I have not looked at the code to see what in the MIDI file is used to flag the variable tempo, but the GHI imported MIDI files seem to trigger this in some songs.
I have not seen the actual GH game use this (things dont speed up or slow down).
The good thing is it does not change the actual gameplay or timing of the notes, it just changes the BPM values to the visuals seem to speed up and slow down (when in fact there are just more or less notes on the screen at the same time)
Still, I'm not sure if it was the desired effect to have it implemented where it changes the GH1 tracks behavior. Even in the FoF editor there isnt a way to make variable tempo sections.

Fretboard does speed up in GH1.
Well it doesn't physically speed up, but the bars across the fretboard (the ones that show the timing) become closer together.
so on frets on fire, i guess the only way to show that is to speed up the b.p.m of that song for that time.
If you don't understand, play iron man (on expert) on GH1, and nearing the solo, watch the fretboard, and the lines.

Either the problem is in the songs or you just need more practice 
But seriously, I just noticed this problem too. I just loaded the new version of FoF and before that there was no problem like this. I don't find it much harder though. It's not so hard to hit the notes, you just have to get used to it. Maybe we'll get a solution to this someday.

Its a little harder since the notes come at you faster, I'm not the greatest at GH but I definitely can hang. I tried "The Breaking Wheel" by Artillery, wow, thats different. I can actually hit the notes on GH, but still FOF doesn't seem quite there yet. I'm noticing this, now that I have the Guitar controller. Oh yeah, and we need hammer-ons and pull-offs

I always hear about these hammer-ons and pull-offs. But in my internet searches all I can find are explinations in the form of tabs and guitar lingo...I own a guitar but have no idea how to play it :p.
Could someone break down what exactly a hammer-on or pull-off is (in terms a non guitar player would understand please)

Hammer on: Play any fret on any string. Keep holding that note, and while its still ringing, 'hammer' another finger onto another fret on the same string, WITHOUT plucking the string again. This can create smoother movement between sounds, and helps with very fast parts because the picking hand does much less work.
Pull off: The opposite. Example: Hold down notes frets 2&3 on the first string. Then play that string. While its ringing, pull your finger off fret 3 and the sound will change to that of fret 2. Same uses as hammer ons.
Combine the two for awesome solo combos :p

Its just like life. Quite interesting in parts, but no substitute for the real thing.

Am I the only one to enjoy the changing tempo? I mean, Get Ready To Rokk - you play the solo like insane, then hit the pretty long chord and the whole slows to be like "That was soooo fast" and then it`s all bak to normal. Imo, it adds kind of Hollywood feel. And I like it:)

Yeah its fun to try to hit those notes at that speed, but whats more fun to the gameplay is actually hitting those notes. When they're flying at you in combination without the ability to do hammer-ons and pull-offs, I just feel like I'm throwing buttons out there and not really accomplishing the main object to the game which is to feel like I know how to play guitar. If I wanted to play that bad, I'd just play a real guitar
