Educating - Use FoF to teach

Teaching wife and oldest kid to play drums.
Had a brainstorm. Record drum rudiments ( paradiddle, drags, ratamacues, stroke rolls) in 2 min audios.
Then chart them out with instructions on the technique.
Put them in a tier type set-up with set goals.
Like 100% 3 times and move on to next lesson.

Now i realize FoF is meant to be a game and for fun, but.......
What do you think??
I am doing this anyway for my wife and oldest. Think it's worth posting after it's done?

Rock Band 2's Drum Trainer would probably work a lot better, but I can see this working.

I'd like to take a look at this when you're finished, as well. If it's something I can make into another Training / Tutorial selection, then I can include as further training material. We have plenty of space for more than just Jurgen's tutorial.

In my search to find sheet music for helping the wife and kid. I found that Vic Firth's web site has this on it ( am not using there audio files ) but it is for pads or real drum use.
So a ton of credit goes to the folks at Vic Firth for the format.
Thought it would be good idea to make it for FoF. Glad to see a few agree.

Marvin: I am planning to use the standard 40 Rudiments.
Not sure about how to tell the player which hand the note should be played with. ( L R LL R L RR )
Might try to use the part up to for the vocals. ( once i learn how.

I plan on using yellow pad for left hand blue pad for right hand. They seem to be the best suited in terms of response and position.

I already have source for all the audio files. Working on making them 4 times as long. Then just need to chart them all with absolute accuracy.

If this is the same format you plan to use i am willing to do 20 of the charts.

Once you have the songs fretted and can play them, you can look into one of either two ways to tell the player what hand pattern to use:

See examples of these in other FoF songs, they show a sentence at a time (or a picture) at the bottom of the screen at certain times throughout the song. Just like Jurgen's tutorial.
These are a bit tougher to make IMO, and less functional than the second option:

notes.mid
just add "Lyric" events at the appropriate time to the MIDI file, and the words you enter will scroll across the screen like Rock Band lyrics. You'll need a MIDI editor capable of working with lyric events. As a backup, you could just add "Text" events that start with "section " - the word Section will be filtered out and these will scroll across the very top of the screen, like Rock Band sections.

These could turn out to be some very cool and useful drumming tutorials.

I also like the RB2-drum trainer... but you must have coding skills to realize something like this...

Obviously voice instructions are the most clear; Jurgen gives you voice as well as a script.txt display to supplement it. IMO it's going to take a lot more coordination and effort to create a properly synchronized voice instruction track for each lesson, and it's more realistic to start with one of the two styles of text instructions. Of course, having both voice and text would be optimal - but that can be added later with a additional, separated tracks should someone feel like creating them.

I have an old drum book that has basic songs in it that teach you how to do paradiddles and stuff.

I could record some of that, if you want.

They could be encores or something.
