well, mike, maybe some of those programs take up the 20% of free system resources that i have left from fof and brings fof down from 100fps to 14fps.
oh yeah, look at this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAK9J71hn2k

A built in screen capture could just remember which notes were hit and when notes were held down and released and when overstrums occurred, and generate the video from this data after the song ends. That would mean much less lag while you're playing the song.
Not sure how hard it is to generate a video.

In linux you usually have a separatye program to do screen shotting. So If I run fretsonfire in fullscreen, I'll miss the next 30 seconds waiting for the program to load, or, alternatively, after it loads, I have to click on a button to save it. Very bad for playing fof.
So this is a better idea than it at first may seem. I support it.
Though I am going to look for alternative screenshot programs.

I wonder how it would run, resource-wise, if the game wrote the key presses to a file so you could playback that replay in-game, instead of having to record videos and publish them on youtube, recording to some lightweight .txt file with a "cerealizing" security system like the scores have. We could share those replay files. A bit like Toribash replays system.
I'm pretty sure someone already talked about that before
