why not add support for an extra 6th fret which is played by not holding any frets and strumming? easiest way to add an extra element to the game.

I really like that idea! I hate it when I'm converting a song and I run out of room to go higher or lower. Instead of having to go back and restructure chords so much, this would be one more option . . . lower than green.

Great idea man! :-)

it would be good for metal songs, especially for things like master of puppets by metallica, where alot of the song is open notes on a real guitar. and the end of the solo in yyz where it alternates between hammer ons and pulloffs to an open string. just an idea.

Guitar Freaks has an open fret, so, hey, why not? More awesome for everyone.

Remember, songs would have to implement it, so current songs would be unaffected.

But then again, instead of adding more notes, why not use the notes already there? There's 20+ possible notes with the controller, but most songs use less than 10.

GF does? I know there's the three buttons, then a wail, but dunno about the open fret.

It's 50/50. Good idea? Yeah. Would give it some diversity, but also change the game a lot. Furthermore, I think it'd confuse people who are just trying to get into the song making part of the game.

Like I said, 50/50.

I've argued with many GH fans that the pro's of GH and GF should be combined, but it always ends in tears...Probably the J-pop.

i just think it would add an extra element of realism - real guitars have open frets, so why not fof? (note - this isnt meant to start an argument over why fof doesnt have to be like a real guitar because its a game etc etc)

I could get into a debate, but I only know one side compared to the other. So, mesch.

As for the GF / GH thing... yeah, I never got people who whine that the other sucks. It's still a game, and it's still fun. Technical aspects suck. Then again, that comes from my want to be pretty dang good at, well, any music-rhythm game.

Whee?

Realism? How would the UI show multiple strings? I shudder. Personally, in this regard, I would love to see vibrato, but obviously, that's not possible without an improved controller and would be very difficult to implement on a keyboard.

FoF is currently a little behind GH. With an open fret, FoF can slightly surpass GH in potential for songs. And who doesn't want that?

I don't want an open fret :p

but I'm all for surpassing GH, also we are no where near surpassing it... yet.

Open Fret can be good.. but then theres one more thing to get used to cause some people arnt even used to the fifth fret yet. This strikes up a REAL good debate, maybe a poll should be added.

The fifth fret isn't hard to get used to...just takes an hour or two...

But, yeah, shifting is hard to adjust to, but in the end, it's really and adds so much more.

With an open fret, you would just let go; this probably wouldn't have too much of a learning curve...
