I had an idea on the preview screen to add the length of the song. That way you know just how long the song is before loading it up to play.

To know that you need to either parse the .mid file or the song file. That will add a considerable delay to the song selection screen.

that is true. I've actually thought of caching some things in the ini file that I need to discover every time.

For example: The difficulties, the lead/bass/rhythm.

I've even thought about this, but it has to be read at least once.

It's on the list, but probably far away

Could I just say, if you do end up caching song data, wouldn't it be better to do it in a seperate file from the song.ini? Maybe a cache.ini file?

Couldn't whoever makes the song for FOF just make a note of how long the song is, then put another line of code in the *.ini file with "2min 36secs" that the game can just read off and put next to the song title? Easy as pie surely?

Also had a thought on the previews - because they take a while to load sometimes would it not be better to have a 20second preview file in the song folder that would load quicker....? No idea on Python so wouldn't know but seems obvious unless I'm just a braindead noob :-P

This was my original thought when I made the suggestion. I wouldn't think it would take much more coding to allow the information to show if a songlength tag were added in the ini.
