Linux + PS3/PS2 = FoFiX?

What would you like to see added or fixed in FOF?

Linux + PS3/PS2 = FoFiX?

Postby slashfan7964 » Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:52 pm

What i am getting at is that the PS3 and PS2 are capable of running Linux. Would it be possible to run FoFiX off Linux on either console? (I know you can run it on Linux for PC.)

Just a thought.

Very true...Never thought a second about that.

I was just messing around and reading stuff, then this occured to me.

Well, maybe if someone tried to mod a system or something for 10 years, we might ge FoF original to work... :glare:

But it's worth a try.

Sorry but what? Its not like i really care but i suggested this exact idea in a different thread, which you replied to.

Death, you mentioned creating a linux distro for the purposes of playing fofix and no more. Thats the same kind of idea i was thinking when i read this thread. However, on the ps3 it can load a linux distro already. What would that mean in terms of porting the game to that console at least? Seems like it might be more possible than with the xbox or the wii..

Until Sony cooperates, No.

The Linuxes on PS3 have no drivers, so the multi-core processor and high-def video are all null. I tried multiple Linuxes on my PS3. Let me just say I've had better performances out of a Win 2K VM on an extremely underpowered Win XP box. So no go on Linux.

Next, we could get someone REALLY geeky to port it to PS3 and run the songs/themes/etc from USB or a folder in the Game Data. I say really geeky because it would probably take a ton of work. BUT - we would get stomped all over. Harmonix/Activision/Kyno-Kyma-MEH Im too lazy to look it up... they would all lose money because we're like that. Why pay for it when you can get it for free. Now I still get the proprietary games, but still. I has my reasons. So Sony would lose income, and we would get sued by like 5 companies at once.

Short Answer: No, without major work and planning.

Actually, last I remember, they have a homebrew application that's a port of FoF, Guitarfun. (Although the graphics are total ****, it plays the same, is compatible with most FoF songs, and I think may have some sort of netplay).

There are a crap load of glitches and no proper way to use Star Power or anything, so yes, it is a piece of ****.

But at least it works.

It's also not a port of FoF like some people are claiming. It uses FoF-format songs, but it was built from scratch (or from something that's not FoF). Therefore, it does not really help us.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't know that.
