Keyboard: The New Way To Surpass GH
I got this idea to pass up Guitar Hero series, add support for keyboard/piano, it would be so awesome, and attract pianists/keyboard-ists!

Re: Keyboard: The New Way To Surpass GH
You can sorta already do this, with a bit of editing on the hand of FoF. You already have the choice to fret Keyboard parts. I prefer left hand lower notes on one chart, higher right hand notes on another chart (maybe Lead and Rhythm settings? This is the way it was done for things in GH/RB, higher notes set to guitar, lower to bass), and use the keyboard to conbine both at the same time, to make it realistic. Basically ten buttons would be used, split different ways (similar to the old master difficulty for guitar). However the problem with strumming would affect it. This is where slide/tapping notes come in. If you've seen the chart for Rebel Yell by Billy Idol in GHWT, they fret the keyboard solo. But its all tap/slide notes, so if you wanted you could play it piano style you wouldn't have to strum. With us having computer keyboards it makes it easier. So adding tap/slide notes would help this.
I'm probably going to be fretting some Van Halen songs at some point, which some are driven by keyboards instead of guitar. The low note/high note separated charts would be the way I would make it, but with tappable/sliding notes where you dont have to strum, it would make it easily playable with 10 notes.
Overall, I like the idea. I'm sure it doesnt even have to interest only keyboardists, but any FoF player that wants to try something new.

Master Of Chart Reviews!
Currently Fretting: I Am The Law - Anthrax
Megadeth - Youthanasia (1994)
NinjAstar Hero (WIP) (10/63 songs done)

There is keyboard sections supported in dB so I guess it's possible.
I was wrong... maybe

There'd have to be an option to turn off sturmming when the keyboard section was selected though. And it'd also require you to use both multiplayer fretboards I believe if I understand NinjAstar's post right.
I like this idea though.

im sure ive read that post from ninjAstar before...
and not today...
i agree this would be cool... i would really love it if more and more of this kind of stuff was supported in FOF(iX) if as a single theme only accesseble thing... more original content... less taxing from the GH/RB train

Re: Keyboard: The New Way To Surpass GH
A simple GlovePIE Script can make this happen
just that, easy isn't it?
Now you just have to map the keys acordingly, Q,W,E,R,T and B to player 1 and Y,U,I,O,P and Enter to player 2,
Note: Do the mapping with the script not running
Note 2: Chords aren't working well right now
Sorry for my english
Code: Select all
Key.Q + Key.B = Key.Q
Key.W + Key.B = Key.W
Key.E + Key.B = Key.E
Key.R + Key.B = Key.R
Key.T + Key.B = Key.T
Key.Y + Key.Enter = Key.Y
Key.U + Key.Enter = Key.U
Key.I + Key.Enter = Key.I
Key.O + Key.Enter = Key.O
Key.P + Key.Enter = Key.P
just that, easy isn't it?

Re: Keyboard: The New Way To Surpass GH
It seems that the code modders are not worried so much about surpassing GH, but cloning it.
This would be a good idea. If I ever did fret a keyboard song, I'd probably use the two drum charts to do it.

I colored the orange fret in my RockBand Theme MAGENTA.

Re: Keyboard: The New Way To Surpass GH
This is something that's rumored to be in the new Beatles "Rockband" game as well as RB3. Might want to hold off on something like that until we know for sure. Otherwise you'll just have two completely different gameplay types, y'know?

If I'm reading this right, you're saying we should wait on this idea, because Harmonix might do it, and if they do, you want the system we use to be the same as theirs?
Pass.
