I'd say it's probably be better to build a blowing assembly like that tutorial and wire in the peizo sensor. Easiest thing might be to do the drum pedal thing exactly like the tutorial and set that pedal as "strum" within the FoF controls.

I've also realized I probably won't be able to use my guitar, as it's a Wii one, and therefore requires a Wiimote plugged in. I do have a PS2 guitar somewhere, but I could never get that cheap pile of crap to work with FoF/iX (or work in my PC at all).

I'm still conceptualizing things first. Haven't pulled apart anything yet :tongue2:

Oh, all I was thinking of doing was charting wind instruments like vocals, then using an actual instrument like a recorder and blowing into a microphone attempting to reach the right pitch/octave. I'd find that a whole lot easier and possibly cheaper seeing for how little recorders can go for. If you really want to be cool you could even use a theremin :D

That would work too, I guess. I was just going for the whole fake plastic instruments angle.

Expert+, hehe.

It would be easy and cheap, but it's teaching you to play an instrument rather than a simulation of playing an instrument. That's not a bad thing, but it is out-of-keeping with how the other instruments are handled. Also, there's nothing to prevent you from doing that currently, just chart it as a vocal track and break out your kazoo.

The only problem I have with this is that differant types of wind instrments have differant ammout of buttons and use compleatly differant ways of playing it it would be pretty weird useing the same type of instrument controller for a tuba or trumpet (which are brass instruments and you have to "buzz" in a mouth peice to play) and a flute (almost works the same way as when you blow in a Coke bottle and it makes a pitch. ) and saxaphone (works by you blowing on a wooden riede that along with a few other things like a ligiture makes a pitch)
so overall I think there needs to be insted of PART_WIND there needs to be PART_BRASS and PART_WOODWIND because they are two differant types of instruments just as differant from each other as string instruments are from the piano
for brass I think a more vocles type gameplay could work you could hum a pitch arround the note and press a combo of 3 or 4 buttons depending on the instrument type like trumpet uses 3 valves and tuba and uphonium uses 4 vaalves but I guess there could be an ini in the song folder to specify how many valves to show on the screen And use actuall valve combinations from that Instrument For chart I can possably come up with some gameplay mockups as I am a brass player and play French horn
and the original idea could be used for woodwind gameplay
wow I typed alot on my iPod touch lol

like a GH controllers fret button

and the coloured valve buttons lie different strums.

holding down the "fret" (blowing) will incur no penalty just like holding a guitar controllers fret down during a no notes section would not

no the first line is a sustain.

it would change based on how the song was played... most flute sections for example would all be longer sustained notes, but dont think of it as a note persay... its more of a guide.

You would also have to stop blowing in between notes in order to register a note as hit, meaning blowing for too long on a short note would be considered an 'overstrum'.

It'd be wrong to play a 1/8 note as if it was a whole note, for example.

I don't understand how this is an improvement over sustained notes as we are used to seeing them. Doesn't that show you not blowing on any of the last four notes?

Were you picturing soldering/splicing that to connect to guitar controller guts or were you imagining running it into the computer separately? I'm still thinking about trying to get a controller together, even if it would have to be played less effectively in a guitar or bass part for now.

No no, the first section is a sustained BLOW with multiple note presses

the last four notes are quick notes, short blow plus a note

---- EDIT ----

I just realised how amazing this would be for classic synth songs, like retro gaming stuff..

almost ALL of the tracks on the Genesis/Megadrive had woodwind tracks
