I for one would like to see a better song editor for the game. The current one is very difficult to use. it would be really nice if the format that freetar hero editor uses could be used in FretsOnFire... the freetar editor would make a great compliment to this game... as you can create songs pretty fast with it... Im sure it would mean some kind of conversion filter for FOF. since it appears the the guitar notes in FOF are in a MIDI file and the freetar hero editor stores the notes in a XML format. If there is enough interest... i *might* work on a filter for it... it would be a wonderful thing.

what yall think ?

I actually like the FoF editor a whole lot better than Freetar because it edits by measure instead of by second. Also, it comes with a metronome for figuring out the BPM...very convenient. :D

depends on how you create the song i guess... perhaps im not familiar enough with the FOF editor to pass judgement just yet...
When i use the freetar editor i usually rough the tune out by playing the song in real time and then going back afterwards and making adjustments.... i found this more difficult in the FOF editor.

There's no real need for better editor since the notes are saved in SMF (i.e. MIDI) -files. Open the built-in songs in a sequencer like Cubase together with the audio tracks and you'll figure it out quickly.

I think the editor is really user-firendly !

But I miss one thing : A copy-paste fonction.

yah... i found the midi thing as well... so i guess you are right... i might still work on a .sng to fof converter... would allow us to be able to convert all those .sng's out there...(Which there are many) to a FOF format... i have begun work on it... and when something more or less works i will post in fof.net first :D

I'd like to see it add where you could switch frets with the F1-F5 keys, instead of just the Up and Down arrow keys (so you could essentially "play" the song)

Excellent point! I had never thought of that, it would probably be the most useful feature for me!

Absolutely.

Copy-Paste also would add a lot to the usability.

One of the most annoying things in the song editor for me is that the song doesnt synch properly when you use space to play the song - the song is usually about a screen width ahead of the scrolling notes, making it very difficult to test it properly without either going back to the start of the song and playing from there, or going back to the main menu, then playing the song properly; so if you guys (are there actually any of the programmers here?) could fix that, it'd be great.
Also, would it be possible to show a wave form of the song (like, the soundwaves) above the editor? That might make it easier still to synch up the notes.

I'd like it if you could slow the song down to get some of the hard timings.

When i test my notes ingame. I sometimes find bug but they are no timer and when i come back to the editor i don't know where is this **** non-sync or else...

A timer would be a good gift ^^

I can't seem to be able to finish the song, because as I move back and forth to edit it, the whole game freezes, often taking me to a fret located at some number in the Billions.
