OK, so this is my idea for a story mode. It would take a while to complete, and would require the FoF community to help out by making good versions of songs.

First, you choose a character (this would require the modelling and programming of characters and guitars, so again, would need community support).
It would be really cool if you just chose from like 5 different characters and then you could change their haircut and color.

Then, you pick a starting guitar, again, more modelling, and we could have a much larger selection of guitars and colors than GH.

After that, you could pick what type of band you want to be in. This is where it gets creative.

You could choose something from a list somewhat like the following:

Rock N' Roll
Metal
Hardcore
Modern Rock (Punk rock and such)
80's Rock

Then depending on the genre you chose, your song list required to complete the game in each mode would change. For metal you would get songs by bands like Metallica, Dragonforce, Ozzy, Pantera, etc. For 80's rock you could get stuff like Boston. For hardcore, stuff like Trivium. For rock n' roll, rolling stones. Then you basically do something like Guitar Hero single player and you earn money based on how you do and such. You could find new band managers, new promoters, start street teams, and stuff like that to sell more tickets to your concerts, and also the better you do the more tickets you sell the next time.

Then if people could keep modelling stuff then people could unlock stuff and hidden bonus tracks and such.

I don't even know if it's possible to model full 3d in python, but if not then maybe someone could convert it to another language with more options?

Just an idea.

Well it's obviously a great idea, but it would necessite at least 2/3 really good Python programmers and a bunch of good 3d modellers...It would become a totally different game in fact, between Guitar Hero and Rock Manager :D

Yeah, but the game needs something more like that, ya know. I may get 3dsMax or gmax again and do a few models, but I have one question; what file format would I have to get the models into sso that they can be put in game using python?

Man, I looked at some of it and it's all too complex for me...I could make models in gmax/3dsmax and then look for a converter, but someone else would have to program them in...

i may be able to help out on modeling guitars and some other things but I don't think I would be able to give them textures and skins just plain color......... well maybe some textures that I could find........well i don't really know haven't had much experiance skinning and texturing. But yeah I also use 3d studio max 6 and i don't know what file format either. oh and i don't know the first thing about programing. Here's just a suggestion, maybe add a country type of band to the kind of band selection. :D

But I think that creating a career type mode is the best thing I've heard for this game and I'm ready to contribute anything and everything I can to make this thing happen

Yeah, we could add a county genre band to the band selection, but first we would have to have at least 15 country songs made for FoF...

All good idea, but I tbh whilst this game is still using python, XML and all that jazz, we aren't gunna get anything nice looking really. If my housemate is up for it im gunna beg him to see if he can redo the engine in C++ (or whatever other variant he might be familiar with). Then hopefully fully textured models can be used. Atm the engine automatically colours the 3d geometry and ignores any texture information, etc. Atleast from the small bit ive tried it seems that way.

I'd suggest that people start drawing up some designs for how they would want the game to look, character designs, etc.

Nothing too fancy, just to give people like me a starting point with regards models, colour schemes and the likes.

Hmm...how hard would it be for your roommate to convert it to C(or another language with more options)

This would probably also help speed up the game engine ALOT. As of right it lags with high res pictures in the background lol. If there were full 3d graphics it would lag like a freaking snail.
