4. Different angles on the 3D display would be helpful too. I'd prefer a 'higher' (not flat) angle of view on the fretboard.

Done and done. I'm still planning on working on the SHIFT selection system and a full screen 3D mode (probably just a zoom in of the existing 3D panel, maybe with an anti-alias if Allegro has this capability).

I'm thinking button 16 on this website: http://www.soundjay.com/button-sounds-2.html It's okay, but I mean it's the best I found in 30 mins.

Awesome on the grid-snap and different angles! Would it be too much to ask for a beta of that...? I've been waiting for the grid-snap feature so I can chart on EOF entirely. A zoomed in version of the 3D display we have now seems fine. Really excited for those final features for the feedback controls!

Orange Lane Cymbal Notes + Generating Sysex Notes upon Impor

Postby Oddbrother » Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:14 am

After importing a GH chart and toggling all notes on yellow and orange lanes as cymbals, I found that in 2D view, they appear normal, but in 3D view, the orange lane appears to have regular notes instead.

Image

It's all just looks, though. The chart saves and plays normally as I want it to.

-- Edit: Mon Sep 17, 2012 9:21 am --

I don't know how dodgy this suggestion might be, but if you know anything about how drummer animations are keyed in a GH chart file, perhaps you could take that into consideration and have sysex flags be generated for notes when importing them into EoF.

Having played GH5, BH, and GHWoR, I recall the drummer literally hitting the rim of a snare as heard within several songs that have them, and I think it could help when importing a GH chart into EoF.

If a rim shot animation marker and a red note are found at the same time and position, a "rim shot" sysex flag will be toggled on that note.

I don't know if the same could be done for hi-hat, though. I assume it's still limited since I haven't seen a pedal or sizzle animation in those games. Just accented notes within the charts.

Postby raynebc » Mon Sep 17, 2012 1:54 pm

I fixed that issue. I hadn't added any 3D orange cymbal images, but that should be fixed now. I couldn't immediately find enough useful information in the NOTE/QB files to determine where rimshots are used. I did see that the GHWT DBG file had these entries though:
0x4da09603 c:/gh4/data/sounds/xma/drums/electropercussion/elecperc_rimshot.xma
0x4da09603 Elecperc_rimshot

If you could name some one or more specific songs that animate the drummer hitting a rim shot, I could try to examine those files to see if these hex strings show up anyplace.

Hmm... Those appear to just be sound effects... for freestyle drum-overs, perhaps.

I do know that "Lithium (Live)" from GH5 and "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?" from BH have them.

italianstal1ion wrote:And I know you mentioned this before, but making the 3D display take up the full EOF window would also be nice.

This has been implemented.

Edit: It's time for a new beta. Changes since 1.8b38:
*Updated MIDI import to support the dance track.
*Various code cleanup.
*Updated GH import so that pitch values of 2 are treated as pitch shifts.
*Updated INI export so that the pro drums not present tag is written if no pro drum difficulty is defined and there are no cymbals, and a vocal harmonies not present tag if no vocal harmony difficulty is defined and there are no harmony tracks stored into the project.
*Added the ability to specify a "Phase Shift real drums" difficulty, which will use the diff_drums_real_ps INI tag.
*Added a preference for rendering 3D bass drum gems in a lane instead of as a bar spanning all the lanes in the chart.
*Changed the continuation characters for some notations that are displayed below the piano roll. Trill now uses "~" and tremolo uses "/", as these are closer to typical tablature notation.
*Added the ability to author pro guitar notes with a vibrato status, for potential future use in Phase Shift.
*Added the ability to lower/raise/reset the 3D preview's camera angle with SHIFT+(plus/minus/enter) on the Numpad (or alternatively, backslash or SHIFT+backslash will lower/raise the camera). The controls for increment/decrement AV delay have been changed to CTRL+SHIFT+(plus/minus) on the Numpad.
*Made some corrections to the grid snap logic.
*Fixed a minor issue where seeking 1ms forward/backward after another seek operation may not move the seek position exactly 1ms as expected.
*Fixed an issue where if the mouse was left of the first beat marker, notes could be entered and would be placed at the end of the chart.
*Added 3D images for orange cymbals, so all 3 cymbals should appear correctly when using the Guitar Hero color set.
*Updated MIDI import to load key signature changes. EOF will display key signatures in the piano roll in the major scales, but the info panel and menu will display both the major and minor scale of each.
*Added a "Full screen 3D view" feature that zooms the 3D preview to fill the entire program window. This can be toggled on/off through the right click context menu (Feedback or RexMundi input mode) or by using CTRL+F. In this mode, generally all of the mouse controls are disabled since you cannot see the editor window. Feedback input mode can be used while this feature is active. CTRL+I will toggle the rendering of the Info panel on/off (this keyboard shortcut previously toggled the inverted notes preference)
*Improvements to Feedback input mode: Prevents the chart from seeking before the first beat marker, chart seeks to nearest grid snap when playback is stopped, fixes the ability to toggle off gems for the note at the seek position, adds the ability to use note manipulation functions on the note at the seek position if no notes are selected, plays a sound cue when changing the grid snap interval, adds the ability to select notes by holding SHIFT when seeking by grid snap or measure, updates seek by measure to assume 4/4 if no time signature is defined so that the seek control stills functions, swaps the paste keyboard shortcuts so that CTRL+V performs old paste (similarly to the Feedback chart editor), the playback speed increase/decrease controls change the speed in 10% increments instead of 25%, the information panel's selected beat and measure reflects that of the seek position after seek and during playback.
*Added logic during QB Guitar Hero import so that if section names are not found, it will allow for an external file to be checked for section names (used by some QB format GH games' DLC/track packs).
*Increased the number of lines that could be parsed in song.ini during any file import, and doubled the number of custom INI entries that could be stored into a project.
*Updated 3D rendering to display tempo and time signature changes.
*Fixed a bug with MIDI import where double bass drum gems were imported as regular bass drum gems.
*Fixed a bug where EOF could hang when attempting to load a QB file that wasn't the actual chart file.

Feedback input mode is more or less completed, including a way to view the 3D panel in a full screen mode similarly to the Feedback editor. The camera height for the 3D preview can now also be changed.

Re: EOF 1.8b40 - Now with Guitar Pro file import

Postby raynebc » Fri Oct 05, 2012 3:19 am

At long last, it's time for the FINAL BETA. Changes since 1.8b39:
*Fixed a bug with Feedback input mode where the mouse could select/move notes even when it is outside of the piano roll area.
*Added additional logic in NOTE GH import to account for files that stored vocals in a way that previously prevented them from being imported.
*Updated the rendering logic to preserve beat information (measure numbering, etc) so that it doesn't have to be reprocessed every frame. This should mark a noticeable increase in performance.
*Various other 2D and 3D rendering optimizations.
*Adds initial Guitar Pro import functionality. At this point, the logic allows for one track of a Guitar Pro file to replace the currently-active pro guitar track. Optionally, the time signatures from the Guitar Pro file can be applied to the active project if the tempo map isn't locked.
*Fixed a bug where EOF would allow the right arrow key to seek beyond the end of the chart.
*Updated logic that tracks the length of the chart so that it will allow charts to be longer than the loaded audio, which can happen when performing file imports. To mark the end of the currently-loaded audio, a red line is drawn in the piano roll area.
*Added a seek to end of chart function to go along with the original seek to end (seeks to end of audio).
*Added the ability to perform a file import (Guitar Hero, MIDI, Feedback) or project load without providing audio. Just click cancel on the dialog window prompting for an audio file, and EOF loads up a 1 second blank audio clip instead. Do note that without any audio to define the end of the chart, beats will automatically be truncated during loading if they are beyond any content (notes, lyrics, text events, bookmarks) in the chart.

That's right, after close to two years of beta releases, it's time to get the stable 1.8 release finished up. Now that the finish line is in sight, any extra beta testing people can do to find bugs will be appreciated and will make the 1.8 release better. Once I finish a couple final things and add a pro guitar tutorial, I'll post a release candidate. Once all important bugs have been resolved, the EOF 1.8 will be released, and once that happens, work can begin on exciting new features like pro keys authoring.

Back to this release though, there have been some more graphics optimizations and now, Italianstal1ion's ~35 minute Feedback chart from a while back no longer lags on my computer when I play it in EOF.

The Guitar Pro import feature probably has some bugs I haven't found. None of the files I tested had non #/4 time signatures or trill notation, so if anybody can try them out, it will help. Otherwise just load up some Guitar Pro files you have created or downloaded and just check to see that it imports with everything intact (except for features EOF doesn't support, such as tremolo bar usage). At this point, Guitar Pro import will only work correctly with GP files using a single "voice" (GP5 format allows for two transcriptions for each track). I plan on fixing that, but if anybody can provide a file with multiple voices authored, I can test with it.

Nice! Awesome work raynebc!

Glad to hear about the graphical stuff, I'm recharting Cassandra Gemini (32 mins long) so it's good to know EOF can handle it

Man, I need this (again) but Sendspace is just so annoying with its "full capacity" thing. Can you please host it somewhere else? Or anyone?

And congratulations on the long awaited stable release after 2 years (it's been 2 years, I didn't even noticed).

Thank you ray, much appreciated.

EDIT: EOF now has dB-like input. Thank you very much for this, I won't be needing dB anymore I guess.
