FoFix No-Pick Discussion and Request

Postby Fareday » Tue Apr 26, 2011 1:28 am

Okay, I'm bringging this old and rusted discussion up again on the forum.

First of all, let me introduce what I think about no-picking.

Why I like no-pick? Because I am used to play GH - since the first one, using the PS2 gamepad.
Image

It may be possible to play using this controller with the pick, but it's just not how I am used to play.
And I say this not for myself, but nearly everyone who are used to play with the PS2 controller should agree.
It's not how we are used to play, and it's not how we'd want to play.

You like to play on keyboards? Cool.
You have one of those expensive guitars and use it? Cool for you bro.
You have PS2 gamepad? Oh, not cool. You're totally f***ed because we won't add support to that way of gaming.
You brought your friends home to some cool GH tournament? Well, you better somewhat have 4 keyboards or 4 expensive guitars, otherwise your friends won't play.

And why, some may ask?
Simply because somepeople are concerned about some stupid ONLINE RANKING.
Please, notice that I don't care about the mentioned RANKING.
I bet most of the people who play FoF and FoFix don't either. (even though most people who frequent the forum do, so you may disagree).

So why, why is this imposed on us? Why can't we just bring our friends and have some fun the oldway?
Because people are concerned about this ONLINE RANKING.

Well, dudes, let me tell you. To cheat this online ranking is the most easy thing one could do.
If I were really concerned about it, I wouldn't open a no-pick thread once again. I'd just go there, cheat a little and BUMP just go on first.

The truth is: I just wanted to play with some friends. I thought FoF was about that. Well, seems like thought wrong.
It's surely is about a ONLINE RANKING were NO ONE CHEATS because that would be so UNCOOL.

My point is: If you really think I'd want a no-pick because it makes the game EASIER (by the way, who the hell first said that? It's just stupid).

Wanna know what's easy?
Try playing Knights of Cydonia with no-pick on a PS2 gamepad.
NOW, THAT'S WHAT I CALL HARD.
And by the way, that song isn't even difficult with picking.

"Oh, but dragonforce is soooo easier without picking!"
Well, sure? I play on ps2 with the gamepad and I must say: It's hard as f***.
And I must add: I don't care about that song, it's boring and half-annoying - as 90% of power metal, it just sucks.

No-pick isn't EASIER, it's just DIFFERENT. It's just another way of playing, another point of view.
And a way that makes it easier to just bring some friends and enjoy some GH matches with practical and cheap USB-gamepads.

So, why not support it?
For the sake of some ranking that no one cares and could be easily cheated?

Well, JUST DISABLE ONLINE RANKING FOR THOSE WHO PLAY WITH NO-PICK. Easy, done.

Why not?
Your turn.

By the way, I know it's hard to make. Everything is. I'm not imposing the developers must make it, they do if they want.
I'm just pointing that it would be 100% awesome if they did so. And there's no arguments against it.

INB4: Use search button derp / It's the 1000 thread like this I've read since yesterday herp.

I agree with you. I too started with the PS2 gamepad and I must admit that it's harder than using the guitar controllers and keyboards, especially when the song is all about fast picking, like Misirlou in GH2, for example. But I think this can be achieved by using GlovePIE. You can make a script that will trigger the pick button when you press the fret buttons on the gamepad. I think there is a script for this somewhere in this forum, although it's for keyboard, it might not be too hard to tweak it to support the gamepad.

P.s. the online ranking server is dead. And I don't even care about it.

You have one of those expensive guitars and use it? Cool for you bro.

Expensive?? I don't think so!
It's differente??? maybe, but . . . . I prefer my cheap guitar.
Keyboard is cheaper than other options

I don't think it is for the tricks cheats, maybe it's for other reasons

you can use Pick no More
a program made by me and FabioZumbi12 that aims to remove the pick
of many rhythm games

A helper application like that will probably still leave some limitations, such as hitting the fret button and NOT having it pick (ie. if you're supposed to hammer on only). It seems that application could let you get away with only having one set of frets auto pick and the other set of frets not auto pick (ie. if you have a guitar with solo buttons), but I don't know if it would detect the solo buttons differently than the regular fret buttons.

the only thing that the application do is simulate the right shift
when you press the desired keys for the frets.
