I just downloaded Frets on Fire for Windows. When I started it for the first time I couldn't navigate through the menus. The only key that worked was the Enter key. My Guitar Hero controller broke so I have to use the keyboard. Please Help!

for some weird reason stock FoF's keys have up and down mapped to shift and enter, since enter is also the "enter" key you can't strum up. try moving into key settings with shift and changing your keys.

f1-f5 are the frets i would suggest going to settings/gamesettings/keysettings and test keys. if they work there then you can navigate with up down left and right.

Thank you all for your responses, however navigating with the shift key doesn't work, and there is no folder called 'Settings' (there is however a folder called 'data'). I'm losing my mind:O

Yes, but I can't access the Settings from in the game because I can't strum. Anyways I have decided to download an earlier version of FoF (1.2.451).

Just so you know, you can also change the settings in the configuration settings file, which is located at Start > Run > %appdata%/fretsonfire/

And if you'r going to use 1.2.451, then I would recommend you get-
(full playable release of 1.2.451 with RF-Mod)- https://www.fretsonfire.org/cgi-bin....id97231

What was the version you had before deciding to change? If it was 1.2.512, then I would recommend that you delete the files in Start > Run > %appdata%/fretsonfire/, before using a different version, as they could cause problems if you dont, the files will get re-created once you open fof.

Hope this helps :) ,

Mike.

I have the same problem with my FoF game, i already assumed to mess with the .ini file located there, but im not sure what values to enter for the lines associated with the controls. Can you help me figure out what to type in? It would be easier for you to PM me if you can assist.

It depends what version you are using, but mine is like this-

akey_up = K_UP
akey_left = K_LEFT
key_5 = K_F5
key_4 = K_F4
key_1 = K_F1
key_3 = K_F3
key_2 = K_F2
akey_cancel = K_ESCAPE
akey_down = K_DOWN
key_action2 = K_RSHIFT
leftymode = False
akey_right = K_RIGHT
two_chord_max = False
key_action1 = K_RETURN
key_up = K_UP
difficulty = 1
part = 0
name = Mike
akey_1 = K_F1
akey_3 = K_F3
akey_2 = K_F2
akey_5 = K_F5
akey_4 = K_F4
key_right = K_RIGHT
key_left = K_LEFT
key_cancel = K_ESCAPE
akey_action1 = K_RETURN
akey_action2 = K_RSHIFT
key_down = K_DOWN

Thank you all for your responses. The one that worked for me was deleting the FoF settings file. Some how it must have gotten messed up. My problem is resolved. Thank you all!
