You'll want to get version 1.2.451, that's the most stable release and most of the mods are built for that version:

http://sourceforge.net/project....=501448

Then just get RF-Mod:

http://fretsonfire.wikidot.com/rf-mod

Extract RF-Mod and copy the data and contrib folders along with the other files into the folder where you extracted Frets on Fire. You'll have to overwrite the existing files. And get C-Mod:

http://fretsonfire.wikidot.com/c-mod

Do the same thing to extract and overwrite the data folder and the main FretsOnFire.exe. Then go into the settings menu of Frets on Fire and change settings such as frame rate, and you can disable certain visual effects to make it run faster.

If you already disabled most/all visual effects, you can try the scaled-down version:

https://www.fretsonfire.org/cgi-bin....edition

Otherwise you can try what's listed in the Wiki:

http://fretsonfire.wikidot.com/

If nothing helps, your computer might not have enough horsepower to run FoF, or you have too many resources being eaten by whatever's running in your OS.

I don't know what to tell you. Those commercial applications had a team of paid developers. Frets on Fire is developed by people in their spare time that have to do other work to support themselves. Follow the wiki, there's not much else that can be done. FoF uses OpenGL (as opposed to DirectX, which those games of yours are using). So depending on your video driver, it may or may not have outstanding support for the OpenGL API.

Jeez Raynebc you really know how to screw someone at the first step dont you!...

Ok your first MAJOR mistake wsa telling him to get FOF Then get RFmod. That was wrong, you ONLY need RFmod.
You then told him to overwrite some of the files with the ones from the RFmod. WRONG!! if you do that you can break the installation.
Basically you dont need the original FOF, you ONLY need RFmod, it is a Full working version of FOF with the code allready built in, no need to copy files , you just unzip and play the RFmod.
And regarding Lagg, Who cares if a computer can play warcraft or diablo, that means nothing when it comes to running FOF.
Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date ( VERY IMPORTANT ) Try shutting down as many background programs as posible. then to help with lagg even more....
go into the settings for FOF and reduce the screen resolution, turn down some of the fancy effects and also reduce your AntiAliasing settings as AA is one of the biggest culprits for putting stress on a computer system.

Please raynebc if your gonna help people, make sure what your telling them is correct, other wise it just means that they will have to come back and ask another question

OK, so I didn't realize the RF-Mod was a full release instead of an add-on like most of the mods. Please forgive me. Installing the mod over FoF won't break the installation if the files are correctly extracted and in fact hasn't the many times I've done it. I didn't really say anything else wrong, so I don't know why you have to be so critical, I was only trying to help.

You don't understand. People do not say to not recommend Alarian's mod. You have to realize we just want to keep the answers as general as possible. We do not say that you should not recommend a mod, we just say that it is useless to come in the Tech Support and ONLY recommend to use another mod as most problems can be solved. We only try to keep answers mod independent.

Then you might ask why people recommend RF-mod? Because Rogue_F is now implied in the development of FoF and that most of his "fixes" should be found one day in future releases. Also, as most mods are built on RF-mod, most chances are solutions implying the RF-mod will work with those mods.
