Hey guys

I know this is strange, a tech support guy asking a tech support question, but i just need something confirmed for me.
Ive been looking over a song another user made becasue he was having problems with it. Now im allmost positive of the answer but as i said i just need it confirmed for me!

Ok. The problem is this... The guy has made a Multi track song ( guitar and rhythm tracks ) BUT.. The guitar is on easy and the rhythm is on medium difficulty.
When you load the game and try playing the song, it shows both instruments ( as it should ) but regardless of weather you choose guitar or rhythm it will display both difficulties.
What i mean is if you choose guitar ( which is only easy) it will ask if you wanna play easy or medium, or if you choose rhythm, it will also ask if you wanna play either difficulty.
If you choose guitar ( which only has easy ) and then you actually choose the Medium difficulty, the song loads and the audio plays, but there are no notes ( which is expected) seeing as ther actually isnt a medium difficulty for that instrument.

OK. So my question is this... Is it possible to have 2 different instruments on 2 different difficulties WITHOUT it saying each instrument has 2 difficulties..

Personally i think the answer is NO, for this reason.... Regardless of how many instruments you have, when the game loads it sees that some where in that midi there is an easy difficulty and a medium difficulty, even tho there on different tracks there is still 2 difficulties present in that one midi file. I say this because after i experienced this, i tried moving the Guitar ( easy ) up to medium difficulty ( so now both tracks are medium) and when i loaded the song again it only displayed the medium difficulty ( which would be expected ) for both instruments. As soon as i moved the Part Guitar back to easy difficulty it would display both difficulties in FOF again..

So all i really need/want to know is.. Does it allways display the song as having more than 1 difficulty per instrument, if there are more than 1 present in the entire midi ? If this isnt the case, how is it over come?

Please as i said i need a veteran fretter to answer this, i dont want 1 hit wonders second guessing this answer for me. If possible actually create a real short basic midi file with 2 instrument tracks and a different difficulty on each one.

Cheers guys.

The reason this happens is because when scanning the .midi file for the difficulties, it only looks at the guitar part.

The way the code looks for difficulties is that it will read all the notes up to and including the guitar part, it will see that it gets notes for supaeasy, easy, med, hard and then say it has all 4 difficulties. Or if there's only notes for easy, it will say there's just an easy difficulty.

Rather than do that for EVERY part (because it will take longer) it's just done for the guitar part and then its assumed that the other parts have the same difficulties.

So actually I would have expected it to only show the easy difficulty in this case. But because of the part ordering it may include parts before the guitar part.

In the devel version I'm looking at reading everything and caching the results so I dont have to read the .mid file every time just to find out the difficulty.

The short answer is that different tracks need to have the same difficulties right now. That's the limitation.
