Every time I load the program, the screen turns black, but then returns to the desktop. A message comes up afterward that's title is Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library. The message says---

"Program:...ts and settings\zack\Desktop\FretsOnFire\FretsOnFire.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the applications support team for more information."

Please can someone help me with this? I have no idea what to do.

Hold your CPU in your hands and throw it as far as you can. If you are able to toss it over 50 metres, it'll run normally

Or try deleting and downloading again, your call
if you don't put a screen up, people won't waste 2 mins to download it, extract it into mods folder, start the game, mess with the settings, choose a song to play it in. Because internet folk are a lazy breed. Without a screen, we can't be guaranteed it's worth our while, so we won't download it.

That's the most useful info I've ever seen.

Have you tried moving the entire folder to another area on the hard drive?

You are running fretsonfire.exe (the program, not shortcut) from the desktop.. try moving the fretsonfire FOLDER to say the root of C drive.. then running from there.

Failing that re-download FOF, reinstall and try that

...and failing that try:

THIS

I've no other ideas though :p

The link goes to a Microsoft KB article which contains within it a link to the visual c++ runtime..

On the page it has a link saying 'download the vc6redist setup_enu.exe package now' you need to click on this to download the .exe file

have you done that?
It should just be a matter of downloading the .exe file mentioned, saving it to a temp location (eg desktop) and then running it.

No idea if it will solve your problem or not though

I ran the program which extracted somewhere. ran the extracted program and nothing happened whatsoever. My busy light flickered for a second and my computer clicked (like it usually does when it's doing something XD) but nothing appeared on screen.
