Make old FoF versions works on Win7 SP1!!

Postby guilhem69 » Sat Jan 07, 2012 5:02 pm

Hi guys!
If you stuck on this error trying to launch old FoF versions (better ones !!) since you've installed SP1 in Win7:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "FretsOnFire.py", line 38, in ?
File "GameEngine.pyo", line 36, in ?
File "Engine.pyo", line 28, in ?
File "World.pyo", line 23, in ?
File "Player.pyo", line 29, in ?
File "Song.pyo", line 26, in ?
File "Audio.pyo", line 155, in ?
File "Numeric.pyo", line 91, in ?
File "multiarray.pyo", line 12, in ?
File "multiarray.pyo", line 10, in __load
ImportError: DLL load failed: Incorrect Parameter.

I think you'll love me ^^!

I've spent long hours to find this file, but I don't deserve all the credits, respect the author!! (who recompiles the file)
Apparently the Win7 SP1 affects a Python function, which is located in the "multiarray.pyd" file of Frets.
This solution is working on MFH 3.030 but should work great on Alarian, RFMod, etc...
You just have to replace the "multiarray.pyd" file in your "..\FretsOnFire\Data" with the one in this archive:

[DEAD] http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VIK08VGB [DEAD]
*** REPOST IN THE NEXT MESSAGE ***

Launch FretsOnFire.exe and, let's rock!

(source: http://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/ thanks to them)

PS: If you experience problems, just know that during my researches, I installed Python 2.4 and 2.6, and the unofficial Numeric python library ([DEAD] http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FCDMWIDV [DEAD] ==> you can find it on the official website of the unofficial library).
so if you still have errors, try to install them too! (but should work without 'em)

good luck and enjoy old school Frets  (and f*ck GH2 souple 75% handicap!!)

This thread deserves a bump.
Just in case the file goes dead @ Depositfiles, I've uploaded the file as well.

sure its the same problem.. if it was, this file should fix it. That error is specific to a certain problem, this new file address that problem. So if you are still getting an error, it's likely not this issue..

Actually.. while i think about it (it has been about 6 years since i last played fof) there is a known problem with getting errors and them repeating even if you fix the problem or even change versions of fof..
They were usually cleared out by removing the FOF files in the Appdata folder on C drive (it's a hidden folder) in there you will find a Fof folder, remove that. IIRC its just a couple of settings files..

You could use one version of FOF get errors, so you change to a newer version and you will still get errors. Unless you cleared out that fof folder from Appdata

Easiest way to find the folder is to click on the start bar and in the little box at the bottom , type %appdata% and press enter, it should open the appdata folder and you should see a folder labeled fof (or possibly fretsonfire) just delete that fof folder and try the game again.

Lol of course it is. GH3 was made by a professional team of game makers with a real budget and a paycheck at the end. FOF was a clone of those exact games, but made by a group of guys in their bedroom. So yeah i should certainly hope it's better :D

Just for sh1ts and giggles, here's a relink for the original file. Just in case the file goes down again..
