HoPo Problem with EOF
So I finally got angry at not finding a song and started getting the info on how to make it myself, I finally decided to make it with EOF since I didn't like FeedBack at all, but I've run into a problem, the HO/PO's, I dont know how to place them :S, in a guide it said that hopos are 1/16 to 1/48 but I don't get it, I put the grid snapping and put my frets and they are not hopo'd what am I doing wrong? or is it they have to be REALLY CLOSE to be hopos? but I've seen hopo'd frets quite far away from each other... help me please :( I wanna finish my song (btw is Aquarius by within temptation, an easy song, u guys'll like it :P)

yes they have to be close together. but how close also depends on your tempo. if the tempo is fast in a song the hopos can be a little further apart, if its slow they will seem closer, kinda like how the beat lines are on the neck. the faster the tempo the closer they are. you could allways try experimenting.... make a new song, just say 20-30 seconds long, set it to the same tempo as you have for your current song, and just slap down some notes close to each other then some a little further away and then some more even further away then see which are hopos and which arnt. that will give you a good indication of how far apart they can be and still get calculated as hopos!

like i said MAKE TEST SONG. no point getting pissed about it , test it first with a new small song of random notes. and see exactly where it changes from hopo to non hopo. its how everyone else does it, we test!

Re: HoPo Problem with EOF
What if I don't want notes to be HoPo? I'm currently working on a song that's at roughly 43.3 BPMs and most notes you'd consider normal distance (1/4th beat notes per measure, not fast strummers) are turning out to be automatic HoPo notes. Anything I can do about that besides turning them off completely?
---- EDIT ----
Haha, cancel that. I just doubled the beat from 43.3 BPM to 86.6 and everything is perfect. I liked the long spaces in between bars, but this works too.

Re: HoPo Problem with EOF
Assuming your BPM is the actual BPM of the song, and all the beats are beat-synced. IIRC HOPOs are placed on notes which are 12th notes (music geeks read: 8th note triplets) or faster. You hardly ever use triplets so just remember that 16th or faster means they will be HOPOs.
Two methods to get more HOPOs:
1) Halve down your BPM yet keep the notes in the same (millisecond-wise, not beat-wise) place. Like what the above poster did, but in reverse. It's kinda hard to do this once you've started a song, though.
2) Add "eighthnote_hopo = 1" to the song.ini to make 8th notes HOPOs too. This is helpful for really fast songs.

Re: HoPo Problem with EOF
Well, I've noticed that as long as you keep things tidy and track your beat changes (bookmarking them helps), it's easy. But yea, all I did was reverse the process. Fortunately, my BPM choices are spot on and I already had everything working perfectly by grid placement. As long as you stay pretty accurate with that, I've noticed that making these sorts of necessary changes are pain free.
