Hi,
I know the game isn't perfect with python's memory leaks so I'm just curious of how to get the best out of what I've got under Linux. I have installed Ubuntu 8.04 and version 1.2.451 with alarian 2.9. I experience random slow-downs, sometimes their is no slowdown and other times it can jerk quite bad. Even if I play a song just after the game as loaded, if I close and restart the game and play the same song performance could be good or bad. Basically the slowdown seems to occur randomly.
I know its never going to be perfect but would like it to be a little more consistent. Any specific options that should be changed? Or any linux specific modifications I can make to increase performance?
Regards,
Adam

Yeah, with those you may have a tough time. Compare yours with mine:
AMD 64 X2 processor 5000+ @ 2.6GHZ
4GB of ram
Geforce 8800 GS.
My best answer would be to try getting a bit more ram in your machine.
Also, if you can't get a better graphics card, and you are using the Ubuntu drivers, try compiling the nvidia drivers yourself. I usually have slightly better performance that way. Tweak your Video Settings as well.
Also, if running Compiz or anything like that, disable it.

They;re the standard ones (nvidia-glx) that come in ubuntu if you go under 'hardware drivers' on the system menu. I'd rather not remove them if possible, it took me several days to get them working. I do have a copy of the latest nvidia drivers for the card and for ubuntu but I could'nt get them to work. Ends up loading in low graphics mode and i had to reconfigure xserver. Perhaps a more powerful card would help, any recommendations?
