Rate the above song.

Postby Lysdestic » Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:24 pm

Saw this thread pop up on another forum I frequent, thought I'd give it a shot here, against my better judgement.

Pretty simple, post a video of a song and rate the song posted above you. Please, try to give more than just one-word feedback. A few sentences explaining what you like and don't like should do.

Me first.

This guy is mostly known as a one hit wonder, as far as I can tell, because of some crap song he put out in the mid-nineties. However, a friend of mine let me hear it on the way out to Oregon once, and it has had a special place in my heart since.

Huh, this thread actually looks really awesome. I will listen to that song now. And i will TRY to give more than a couple words. I am horrible at explaining why i dont like songs though.

-- Edit: Wed Sep 01, 2010 8:45 pm --

Well its hard for me to judge a song that isnt in a genre of music i listen to. So i knew right from the start i wasnt going to like it. I dont really like any songs that have acoustic guitar in them or that are slower paced. There are a few exceptions to the slower paced rule, and even fewer to the acoustic guitar rule. I generally like my songs fast-paced and energetic. Songs that force you rock out because of how epic they are, and songs that make you feel so full of energy that you dont care about any of the horrible sh*t going on in your life. So that is my explanation as to why i did not like it. As for a rating, i think it would be a little unfair for me to rate the song (because id just say 0/10 because it just had no interest to me). I am someone who normally doesnt get too intrigues by the actual lyrics of the song because most times i can never relate to them and/or decipher their meaning. This is another reason i like a lot of metal songs. Because in metal, the artists often sing about darker themed stuff, which i can relate to much more easily than happiness or anything else. So i dont even know HOW to judge an acoustic guitar song like this. So thats my review i guess.

And as for my song:

I do really enjoy the concept for this thread though, and it surprises me that it hasnt been created yet. Thanks for the post!

That was a pretty good song, a lot of the stuff i like was in it, blasts, epic guitar, sweet riffs. I'd give it at least a 8/10

And this is the instrumental version, because although i love heavy vocals, it gets a little old after a while.

That song reminds me of bits of Metallica and St. Anger for some reason. Not a big fan of trash metal though.

Here's a song thats split into three parts and a masterpiece of a song, its called

Everything Under the Sun- By Extreme

PART I- RISE N' SHINE

PART II- AM I EVER GONNA CHANGE?

PART III- WHO CARES?

-- Edit: Wed Sep 01, 2010 9:24 pm --

This song should be fretted one day btw.

Listened to half of the first song. Sounds like...Christian rock. Didn't know Extreme did songs like this.

7/10

Going for the high score.

That's a pretty good song. This is one of the reasons why I should stop assuming almost any band I haven't listened to before isn't good. Also, the song sounds quite atmospheric and emotional. I'm also surprised this thread hasn't been thought of before.

It's okay. It has a little bit of a techno beat to it in the background, and the instrumentals seem really well played, but I don't like the vocals so much.
Get a new vocalist, and they're set.
6/10

I tried to make it somewhat reasonable.

I actually liked that Alesana song. I really really like Alesana's screaming vocals, but im not a fan of their clean ones (at least not generally)

Overall id say 6/10. I was gonna give it 7/10, but it seemed that the 2nd half of the song slowed down a bit.

Lemme find a song, hold on

Here we go:

Ninja'd.

@Thick: 9/10 I actually really enjoyed this when I first heard it. Although I'd like to request that things like these stay out of this thread, since it's not really...well, for lack of a better term, "official".

What, Tranquility?

Well, I'm going to be honest. That's pretty much Skyfire's sound. Esoteric is more blast-beaty though.
