News article... GH:WT outsells RB2 2:1 but.....?

Postby dgrams2000 » Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:12 am

http://www.edge-online.com/news/world-tour-doubles-us-sales-rock-band%E2%80%AD-%E2%80%AC2

So the big news is that GH:WT sold twice as many copies as RB2 so far.
But lets look at it this way… Say that I don’t have the $$ to keep going out and buy games… but I keep RB1, and all new dlc that comes out is still compatible with RB1.
So, RB1 is still fresh with new songs…. Kind of like having a sequel without purchasing the newer game.

GH players had no choice but to buy the new game.
RockBands superior forward compatibility should be figured into the stats somehow, instead of just being about the # of copies sold for each game….

Does that make sense?

i think the only reason GH:WT outsold Rock Band 2 is because of the advertising. Harmonix spent much less on advertising than Activision did. also, think about the new features from Rock Band 1 to Rock Band 2, compared to GH3 and GH:WT. all that was added in Rock Band 2 was more songs. GH:WT added more playable instruments, band multiplayer, band vs. band multiplayer, a limited song maker, and customizable characters and instruments. i think the only disadvantage that Activision had with GH:WT was the horrible hardware (way more reports of faulty or broken instruments than Rock Band 2), and the poor service if you needed to replace your instruments (charging for shipping, sending you broken instruments, etc.).

Not a lot of 12-year-olds can have online for their console and still have the funds for the wealth of RB DLC.

Fact: Most GHWT fans are idiots or kids.
Fact:GHWT is basically a copy of RB except less dlc and a midi music creator.

Like the article said, GH4 Wii was released before RB2 Wii. Wii is the most popular console.

Spoiler:

It's not a real goose, it's only a picture of one.

GH series has been around longer. People think Rock Band it the rip off, when it's really vice-versa.

If I remember right Hamonix orginally started the Guitar Hero series then sold it.

I'm no expert analyst but I would think that a big chunk of the revenue that Harmonix receives will be from DLC.

Lets face it. Rockband has an assload of DLC, good DLC. GH has very little DLC and most of it is garbage. The only DLC I think that GH did really good on was the Death Magnetic album.

I think the money is in the DLC.

I do like the GH:WT through.

If you stop and look at it the DLC is alot of money compared to the games. If you buy 60 singles you'll be spending 120$, the price of two games. $5.50 for 3 songs doesn't look like alot but over time it adds up. I know i've spent well over $100 on DLC.

thats the reason why usually 3/4 of the tracklist on the cd is bad because you can earn with dlc more.
