Could you elaborate on this point? All documentation on the World Charts fails to address Star Power. By the point I entered the community in February or March all top scores were untouchable without Star Power on a near flawless run. Is there a reference we can cite here regarding World Charts gameplay, or if lacking get placed here? From the perspective of new blood having only the present scores to gauge oneself by this would save much confusion.

I'm seeing an underlying issue of how to deal with the impact of mod development. The community seems divided over the introduction of Star Power by the modding community. Once a score affecting mod is released to the public it's inevitable that it will influence a default Chart. What measures are utilized to address the impact of mod features? Is any form of restraint encouraged in the mod community on releasing mods prior to reasonable testing? The World Chart server software seems to be the weak link overall. How might members of the score community get involved in providing solutions that enhance the overall fairness and competitiveness of all preferences in Frets on Fire?

It is only assumed here that the default and official score charts is meant to be played with the default and official game version which doesn't include any forms of "star power" or multipliers "boosters" as not all the people downloading the game are forums users (hence not mods users)

There already were numerous debates concerning this modding issue. You should search the forums about it. Some solutions were found but none were applied. The best right now is to use score charts for entertainment only and not take them too seriously. Besides, no matter what security measures you take there will always be people to bypass them. Relying on respect from other players might seem a bit "naive" but it's the only real thing you can do right now. Some scores on the world charts are obviously frauds (and maybe you can try to report them in this section, charts admins might see it) but some are very high but still legit.

Did you understand what he meant?
He asked for an information to be added to the first post, which was done, if you look correctly, on june 27th.

Is there a thread that explains how to host your own scores? I SEARCHED, just to let you know :)

I downloaded the php stuff, but now what?

You first need a web server or web hosting. After that, you choose your charts system:
<ul>
<li>The official World Charts runs on the official system, built with Django (requires that your server runs django). Find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/project....=509593

<li>sneftrup's php charts scripts, very versatile system working with a MySQL database (Divra's charts are built on it). Find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fofchart/

<li>Frets On Fire Contest Server, a PHP-based contest server for Frets on Fire. Authorized users can play the selected songs and upload their score to see who is the best! Find it here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/fofcs/
</ul>

You have to change your search method... ??? That is in the first post by raph :laugh:

You can take the php method and set it only as localhost, or the third and compete in a great way with...... yourself or your friends... :p :cool:

I downloaded the php stuff, but now what?

If you downloaded the php scripts by sneftrup, it has a precise readme that explains how to "install:

-------------------------------------------------------------------
| 2. Requirements |
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This release no longer requires python. Only a webserver, PHP and
MySQL is needed.

- Apache webserver (works on 2.2.4)
- PHP (works on 5.2.1)

- MySQL server (works on 5.0.27)

For an easy solution for local installation, install the Wamp
server. It includes Apache, PHP and MySQL in a single easy to
install package.

See references for links to the required software.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
| 3. Installation |
-------------------------------------------------------------------
This part assumes that you have the webserver running and that PHP
is working. See the installation instructions for the software
for help.

Unzip the archive to some directory. After this, the installation
consists of four parts:

1) Modify connection info in upload.php and chart.php.
2) Populate the database with songs using the supplied script.
3) Copy files to the webserver
4) Edit fretsonfire.ini in your Frets on Fire directory.

3.1 Modify connections:
Locate upload.php and chart.php and change the host, user,
passwd and db variables in both files to the correct info for
your server.

3.2 Populate the database:
Create an empty database in your MySQL database server.
Copy buildDatabase.py from the /tools directory to the root
of your Frets on Fire directory and run it.
Run: buildDatabase.py -init "host" "user" "passwd" "db"
to create the required tables.
After that, you can run buildDatabase -f or -s to either dump
the sql queries to a file that can be imported, or directly
to the database. Run buildDatabase.py without parameters for
more information.

As an option, you can run uploadScores.py to upload all your
scores to you newly created scorechart.
Run: uploadScores.py frets_dir upload_url
e.g. uploadScores.py C:/frets http://www.myhomepage.com/upload.php

3.3 Copy files
Copy upload.php, chart.php, phprealizer.php and
fretscoredisplay.php to the same directory on your webserver.

3.4 Edit fretsonfire.ini
Locate fretsonfire.ini in your fretsonfire directory and change
"uploadurl = http://kempele.fi/~skyostil/python/fretsonfire/upload"
to "uploadurl = http://yourwebserver/fretchartdir/upload.py".
I.E. if you copied the files to the root of your webserver,
and you are running it locally on port 80, you would change it
to "uploadurl = http://localhost/upload.py".

That's it, make sure the webserver and database is running, start
Frets on Fire, set Upload Score to True on the options, and play.
If everything is working, your scores should be added to the
database everytime you finish a song. To see the scores, go to
http://yourwebserver/yourfretsdir/chart.php

chart.php is just a quick example of how you could display the
scores, feel free to use it if you want, or create your own file
in whatever languange you want that can access the database.

It sure is, I would ask about it on their forums, but I'm going away until next Thursday (I think), so it could take a while. The problem is that the charts have become too large/complex so they use too much of the servers resources.

I'll try to help with what i know, so far ???
I'll be short in descriptions, if you have ? about 1 thing, just ask.

1st<--
1st--> DNS for your localhost (127.0.0.1)
2nd--> You need a web page (site) and a host for it
3rd--> Wampserver is ok for your actual needs
4th--> Never put your server online until your pc is fully secured. (search for tutorial for 'php.ini')

2nd<--
1st--> httpd.conf doesn't need to be change
2nd--> You'll work with httpd-vhosts.conf
3rd--> What you set in VirtualHost override httpd.conf
4th--> Starting line

Code: Select all

NameVirtualHost yourhost.com

<VirtualHost yourhost.com:80>
 Ã‚   ServerAdmin    [email protected]
 Ã‚   DocumentRoot "C:/your/website/localroot/folder/"
 Ã‚   ServerName     yourdomain.yourhost.com
 Ã‚   ErrorLog          "logs/yourdomain.yourhost.com-error.log"
 Ã‚   CustomLog      "logs/yourdomain.yourhost.com-access.log" common
</VirtualHost>

EDIT 5th--> Your database need an 'ALIAS' that link the 'Virtual URL' to the 'Local path' of your 'FoF Database'.
6th--> Your pc needs to know that you own a website (for auth. purpose) --> ...system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1             localhost     # means 'this machine'
::1

your website ip   yourdomain.yourhost.com

7th--> Make an 'Alias' that will redirect your website URL to your website local root folder

Code: Select all

Alias /http://your.complete.url "C:/wamp/your/website/localroot/folder/"

3rd<--
1st--> phpmyadmin for all database purpose
2nd--> Create a user with all privilege AND password
3rd--> Don't forget to 'flush' or reload privilege before you do anything else or you won't be able to log in your database thereafter
4th--> Make sure you create your database in your website local root folder
5th--> Frets on Fire Score Chart v1.3

Don't forget to secure your pc with php.ini before going online with apache
Set access privilege in VirtualHost for all your directories involve
Example:

Code: Select all

<Directory />
 Ã‚   Options FollowSymLinks
 Ã‚   AllowOverride None
 Ã‚   Order deny,allow
 Ã‚   Deny from all
</Directory>

This is the most restrictive access

This is the 'setting' part..!

All you need to do now, is built your website so it looks great and attractive... :laugh:

Good luck :p

P.S. You can configure anything with wamp, apache and php, but don't change something unless you're 100% sure of what you're doing. Or you can run into severe security problems.

IMO this would solve problem with the charts being knocked down regularly...

create two new charts, one for gh2 sloppy and the other for gh2 strict/rf-mod HoPo systems (since these settings are only present in alarian mod then a section for no starpower is pointless, and the bass/drum sections at fofchart.exofire.net can remain there because creating 4 charts altogether is just too much work). with this at hand, this will show the high scores of more high skilled players acurately, rather than mesh them in with the fret mashers on sloppy. because isnt the point of the charts to show who's the current best? ever since we've had an option to change the hit window its like (to quote kotti) playing the same game with different rules. i've requested this many times and i've been ignored each time. so unless someone can give me a solid reason as to why we aren't already doing this then im going to keep bringing it up whenever the talk of charts arises. anyway, all in all this would keep it from going down because instead of cramming all that data into one chart we can cut it in half.
