The Gaming Review: R.O.B. The Robot

Postby ThickAsABrick » Mon Aug 15, 2011 4:12 pm

This week's gaming review is on the topic of.........................

R.O.B. The Robot

Image

R.O.B. (Robotic Operating Buddy), released in Japan as the Family Computer Robot, is an accessory for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released in July 1985 in Japan and later that year in North America. It had a short product lifespan, with support for only two games which comprised the "Robot Series"; Gyromite and Stack-Up. R.O.B. receives commands via optical flashes in the screen. Once it lights up, it is ready to receive six commands. Just like NES Zapper, R.O.B. only functions correctly when coupled with a CRT type television. All the Robot series games include a test feature that sends an optical flash that should make R.O.B.'s LED light up.

Here is a commercial for R.O.B.

Here is the IRATE Gamer's review of R.O.B.

Part I: Gyromite:

Part II: Stack Up:

Whats YOUR review, thoughts on R.O.B.?

I use to own one in my first house, my dad won the Deluxe NES Set from a radio station contest back in the 80s, which came with the NES console, NES Zapper Gun, and R.O.B. At the time I never played it though.

Look into his eyes, you will see
what this whole thread really means
Search your heart, search your soul
You won't find it there, so search no more

Please tell him, it aint worth trying anymore
Won't you tell him he shouldn't post no more...
He knows it's true,
Every thread he makes, is complete poop

Look into your heart
you will find... there's no review, to show.
Take it as it is, this thread's so bad
I would give it all, just to stop this crap.

Please tell him, it aint worth trying anymore
Won't you tell him he shouldn't post no more...
He knows it's true,
Every thread he makes, *oooh* is complete poop
Black Moon Broods...

I would agree with that and would of rather put the AVGN review of R.O.B., but he waits more than a yr to post newer reviews to YouTube, so the AVGN R.O.B. review is on ScrewAttack and idk how to embed the non-YouTube vids.

and the review is that I have never played with R.O.B. the Robot, but based on what I have seen, I think it was kinda a neat idea to have a buddy to play games with you, if you were by yourself and didnt have any friends or siblings over at your house. The problem was with the technology and that R.O.B. is just to slow to do the commands and moves, which kind o0f defeated the purpose. It's a whole operation with the Gyro discs, to eventually get R.O.B. to press the A or B button. He should of been more smoother, faster, and really be a quick time second player/ gaming buddy for the user. R.O.B. it seems could only handle simple tasks like opening up and closing things, and couldnt move the D-Pad around and be a real functioning player. I like the novelty of the idea though.
