Have you tried reverting BIOS to default?

Also, unplug all cables (including IDE cables) and reconnect them to be sure there isn't a connection problem some where. Also, double check the jumper on the drives to make sure that somehow didn't fall off or is in the wrong spot.

Ya, i figured it out. Both DVD drives are sh*t. tempermantal the one is :)
ALso, please dont be mad, i looked at a few of your guys suggestions and found nothing or completely irrelavent advice. Could have helped if i explained it better.

It could be the cables too.

And some mobos dont have the curtosy of having 4 RAM slots. AS most mATX boards only have the 2. Where as most ATX and BTX boards (that use DDR2 memory) have 4 RAM slots.

I did revert the BIOS to its default settings. Im assuming that the IDE that came with the mobo is the one causing the problems. AS i said before, i could have explained the situation better.

Basically,
- system post (thars a good sign already)
- system reads the drives are there
- It does boot from the drive, when it wants to
- XP setup, claims a genuine XP pro disc as "fake"

So , i concluded that there might be an issue with the drive or the IDE cable

-- Edit: Sun Oct 24, 2010 1:49 pm --

Haha, i just switched the disk out for my blacklisted XP pro disc and it worked

Hey, I install plenty of genuine OSs. It's a weird coincidence that all of them happen to be Linux distros, though.

Ok here's a new one, Diagnose the problem with the computer i claimed went together without a hitch.

The BIOS doesnt keep the settings after the computer has been unplugged.

What i done:

Replaced the CMOS battery

**Flashing the BIOS to a newer version is a last resort so dont suggest it please**

  • Check the CMOS jumper
  • try replacing them
  • check the battery voltage
  • check the battery connection
  • check the battery circuitry
  • try clearing the CMOS memory
  • throw mobo through the window
  • incinerate computer
  • ?????
  • profit
