Contra is not as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Just memorize patterns and where enemies show up and the game is easy mode. Srsly.

Ikaruga on just about any difficulty is **** hard as ****.

Any Touhou game on lunatic wat is just impossible.

I've got contra 2 on the NES (well, probodetector, but it's the same with robots instead of humans) and it's insane. Maybe it is possible to finish it without cheats, but hell, it isn't for me!

It's called Probotechtor 2 (or Super C in the US) and it's easier than Contra was. Seriously.

Just Probotector for me. Level 5 without cheating only. I only finish it with 30 lives !

I would say my hardest games would be the old SSI games (particularly Dark Queen of Krynn and the Buck Rodgers games). I have not lasted past 5 minutes or less on any of them (I always die first fight in game). Ninja Gaiden is hard, but I'm good at those type of games (same applies to the DMCs). IWTBTG and contra, as said before, is mostly memorizing patterns (which does take time... being the only reason I haven't beat them yet). But, if I had to pick a second... I would say Owata (similar to IWTBTG).
