Conficker C worm
Am I the only one here concerned about this worm?
CIRA has detected that a worm may infect computers running Microsoft Windows soon, and it is expected to go live on April 1st.
It might be an April Fool's joke

I am too lazy to come up with a decent signature. So if you are reading this, I'm not giving you any time of your life back.

Re: Conficker C worm
According to an article I read:
I'm still a little worried although I did get that update that they are talking about. It's probably because I don't trust Microsoft to completely fix their mistakes, even when they say they did.
The Conficker outbreak illustrates the importance of keeping current with Internet security updates. Conficker moves from PC to PC by exploiting a vulnerability in Windows that Microsoft Corp. fixed in October. But many people haven't applied the patch or are running pirated copies of Windows that don't get the updates.

I hope it infects the whole world and above. Maybe then people will stop being complete retards and have some regard for the security of their systems, instead of the usual "WINDOWS IS SLOW TODAY MUST BE VIRUS DAMN MICRO$OFT TOTALLY NOT MY FAULT LOL". Even though this is a totally different situation, I hope it actually sets an example.

it won't do anything if you've turned your computer on within the past 6 months

I really have this. Seriously. It shut off my AVG and I cannot turn it back on or reinstall it. I am a little worried.

Re: Conficker C worm
I'll have to see if Firefox, Avast, TeaTimer and PeerGuardian were enough to prevent me from getting this. If you never hear from me again after April 1st, we're all gonna die.

Which doesn't mean you won't get it.
OP: I say keep your virus protection up to date if you're very worried.
Re: Conficker C worm
It's highly unlikely to get anything like this on Linux unless you are an idiot and running as root. Anytime a program wants to access something they may damage you computer, you have to enter the root password.
Re: Conficker C worm
Conficker/Downadup has been around for awhile. I've removed it countless times at work.
My take? It's set to go off on April First, people!
At most, the worst that will happen is money scams. That is what they (whoever they are) do. Anyone remember the Antivirus 2009 BS?
This stupid 60 Minutes bit on it was so misinformed and has scared so many people, it's ridiculous. This my friends is what the people are going for. Fear. And you know what? They got what they wanted.
The damn 60 minutes bit didn't even bother to mention how important Windows Updates, Antivirus, Firewall, and keeping all of that up-to-date is.
Bastards.
Malware all comes down to one thing. Regardless of Operating system. (KTown, shut the **** up. If you don't like Linux, fine, windows is nice. Use what you like and what you need, but don't trash the preferences of others.) User Stupidity. That's it.
The people with malware are the ones still using Internet Explorer 5.0. Windows XP SP1. No virus scanners, no firewall, limewire downloading out the rear, and windows updates turned off. It's their own god damn fault. You don't want a virus? Isn't that nice? Why don't you run Windows Updates every once in a while, Install AVG, keep the damn thing updated, and don't click that **** link for hot teen sex? Mmmkay? Thanks.
Oh, and Midnight. It's nice you switched to Ubuntu and all, provided you like it and everything, but that false sense of security alarms me. If I uploaded a song, and told you that in order to install it into FoF, you must enter a terminal and type 'sudo rm -rf /', what would you do?
